UCSD vs UIUC

<p>Well I'm here deciding between these two colleges.
I got into Thurgood Marshall (late night food!) for UCSD</p>

<p>I'm a bit split on how i should decide.
UIUC just recently offered me (12k x 4 years) if i maintain a 3.0 gpa (not too difficult... i think)
plus i got into their honors program</p>

<p>but that's about it. the total costs for UIUC will be about 44k (nonresident) + (22k (declare residency) x 3 years) = 110kish</p>

<p>I bet there are scholarships and other things I can earn when I get there. But for now that's what I have for UIUC</p>

<p>UCSD on the other hand, I didnt get a regeants :( and no honors program or anything. I'm still waiting for a revised financial aid package.
But it should be 7.88k from Cal Grant
+ ~10k UCSD grant
and maybe a work study (hopefully)
+ my parents efc (~5k)
would cover my whole college + boarding costs</p>

<p>Total costs over 4 years: ~23k times 4 = 92k?</p>

<p>So the problem is I still can't decide.
Can anyone help me with this?</p>

<p>I like both of their academic programs. mmm maybe San Diego might have the best weather in the world. And i just talked to someone from UIUC who tells me that the summers are very hot and humid, and the winters are shockingly freezing. </p>

<p>I plan to study in a field of Biology. Haven't decided which part though.</p>

<p>UIUC is a great school and I actually plan on applying there for grad school, but for your money’s worth and bio rep, I think UCSD is a clear winner–and I hardly ever use any absolutes when it comes to these kinds of questions.</p>

<p>First of all… I LOVE how you mentioned the late night food at Marshall! Haha you have clearly done your research. OVT is bomb. </p>

<p>My opinion on your situation: anyone on this board is going to tell you UCSD is more prestigious, including me. Especially because you’re in biology. But anyone from Illinois is going to tell you to go to UIUC because it is more prestigious over there. Basically what I’m trying to say is figure out where you want to live after college. I also will add that the schools have very different environments - the midwest is very different than southern California. It is up to you to figure out which environment you like better.
