I have to choose between UCSD and USC for computer science and was wondering what your guys' opinion on which school offers more in terms of education and career opportunities.
UCSD is ranked higher in almost every rankings list I've seen but USC is generally ranked higher overall as a university.
Do you guys think the $64k is worth the network at USC?
Any insight would be appreciated, even if you aren't planning on attending either university.

Eh, don’t look too much into the rankings. The quality of education at the two schools should be the same.

Whichever school fits you better and/or offers a better network for you(That you can afford) is the right school for you.

As BruWin (Bruin) my opinion may be a little bias… from what I heard the Trojan network is strong in the L.A. area… but even then there are other Socal private universities (CalTech, Harvey Mudd) that have a better network for CS majors. Outside Socal, the trojan network is not as strong… I dont think that the USC brand is stronger that UCSD’s in silicon valley, or any place outside of California.

IMO, USC is hella expensive… but if you are rich then more power to you.

and finally the only reason that USC is ranked higher as a University is that publication that rank colleges always are anti-public universities… if you compare the ranking of US rankings vs International rankings you will see that public ivies such as Cal, UVA, Michigan, UCLA, UNC, Georgia Tech, and mid tier UC’s such as UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD get more respect.

Holy crap, 64k
