Hello everyone
My daughter has narrowed down her choices to USC and UCSD for biology. Her main goal is to attend med school after graduating. At USC her major is Biological Sciences and at UCSD it is Human Biology in Muir. We were very fortunate to receive great financial packages (all grants and no loans!) for both schools. On one hand, UCSD has the recognition as a fantastic school for the biological sciences, but being a large public will provide many challenges. On the other hand, USC seems to have a much more personalized approach to each student's goals and it seems there will be much more guidance and a much smaller chance of getting lost. She loves both schools equally right now. Also, which one would provide her with a greater chance of entering the medical school of her choice? Thank you for any response!

If she wants to attend med school. Then it doesnt matter where she goes. Med Schools dont look at how prestigious one school is over another and they dont sit an analyze how good a specific program is. All they care about is her GPA.

Personally though, I would choose USC just because I’ve heard friends that go to USC say that the professors pay close attention to the students and that some professors arrange for small study sessions with a few students whereas at a large public school the professors dont have that much time to devote to a small group of students.

But that is what I’ve heard. Dont base your daughter’s decision based off of what ever is posted here (by me or anyone else)

either one, doesn’t really matter as aviboy ^ said. both are good schools, and as was already mentioned, gpa and research is important!
but, she may want to consider the school’s location and the area’s safety. usc isn’t located in a safe area…dtown LA . but ucsd is safe.

Normally I’d say UCSD because you’re definitely getting more for less, but apparently you’ll be paying very little for USC.

Eh… based on academics I’d still say UCSD for its biology programs. Everything else is up to the other factors (social life, area, etc.)
