Any thoughts on quality of education for Bio-Engineering programs at:

UCSD
USC

What would be the criteria to select if you have scholarships from both engineering programs and admission to other engineering schools too.

Does the student have a preference?

USC is better in every way unless you are in-state then UCSD is cheaper. Otherwise Id pick USC.

For BME, UCSD is by far the better choice. It is probably the best program in the Country given that SD is the US center of biotech and industry is tremendously involved with the school. The research and internship opportunities are second to none with Stanford being the only school close.

^^Agree. UCSD is widely regarded as having one of the top bioE depts. in the country.

UCSD for your purposes

Vitare - Why do you say USC is better? As for finances, S has scholarships from both. So that is not an issue. Has admission in Cal, UCLA and other competitive schools. We are trying to figure out the best program for Bio-Engineering.

UCSD may have better bio-engineering but USC beats it in every other category. He will probably have a lot more fun at USC while still getting a good education, even if its program isn't as strong. Just saying...you should consider everything.

For your son's major, the only school in the Country that can come close to offering the same education, research opportunities, internships and industry interaction, is Stanford.

I recently spent time at SD looking at how the biotech industry interacts with the school. The funding it brings, the opportunities this amazing university/industry relationship has resulted in. SD is the biotech capital of the Country now and UCSD is an important part of the equation.

Vitare is ruining USC rep here. stop dude, just saying.... you are not helping your school just now.

Otherwise, I am biased to UCSD, they have it now. no contest.

It's not my school, i'm just saying what I know. UCSD is kind of lame.

When you read a post by Vitare, you really need to take it in context... such as this prior post:

lol anyone will agree that USC has a much better social and fun atmosphere than UCSD, and it's still a prestigious school. Use my previous posts against me all you want, it doesn't prove crap.
