I really need as much input as possible, considering how little I know about the student experience at UCSD. I am from San Diego, so that is a plus because of my family being here, but which would be better all-around: student experience, academics, etc?

I have no idea. It depends. I would guess that UCSD is cheaper and has a stronger engineering program.

I was asking regardless of finances or specific majors, just overall student experience.

I'd imagine most of us here right now haven't exactly been living at UCSD yet to know the experience ;). And if we have, we definitely haven't been experiencing UVA ;)

Do you want a football team? Do you want a college town? Do you want a laid-back group of people? Do you want to live near the beach?

Perhaps tell us some things you want from college, and we can tell you where to go? More specifically, if UCSD is the right fit for you? (I don't know jack on UVA =P)

kschnitz, I'm sure you visited UCSD before. A lot of people choose their colleges based on their "gut feeling". Would living too close to home and friends be a distraction? UCSD is a very studious place, is that what you're looking for? Also, there isn't as big of a greek presence at UCSD, but then again, I can't comment on UVA since I've never been there.
