So I plan to major as a economic major and then a MBA. So far I got accepted into 4 out of state schools. Where would you guys go in you were me and why? Rank the school please. I plan to go to a different school with a better MBA program if possible after going to undergrad.

Univ. of California at San Diego
Univ. of Boston
Univ. of Minn. Twin Cities
Univ. of Wisconsin Madison

They are all good from the reputational standpoint. Consider the following:

Consider net cost after financial aid and scholarships.

Consider course availability and faculty research interests. Consider what subareas of economics interest you and which school has the best availability of courses and research opportunities in those areas.

Consider who recruits there for students in your major by asking the career centers. Consider where you would like to work, since there tends to be local favoritism in recruiting.

MBA schools like to see work experience after bachelor’s degree.

speaking of financial aid when do college give me a number for how much they will give? I havent got any info so far from any schools.

Many students have reported financial aid offers already.

You should hear soon if not already. If you do not hear soon, contact them and ask.

Unless you live in Wisconsin or California, the University of Minnesota is likely to be considerably cheaper than the other options. If you live in Wisconsin or California, then the University of Minnesota will likely be comparable in price.

What if the price of the school is not a issue? What would be the best choice?

I decided to take Boston Univ. off my list because of the cost.

When you get your aid packages, run the numbers through this calculator so that you can better compare them [FinAid | Calculators | Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Award Letter Requirements - Finaid)

Good luck with your decision!

All these schools are pretty similar in terms of prestige and academics. UCSD and UW-Madison may be slightly more prestigious overall but Minnesota is generally considered somewhat better at econ. If you don’t have a definite preference among them cost may be a good deciding factor. UCSD in particular is likely to be expensive out of state.

Is flying to each campus worth the time and plane tickets or is it a waste?

If you have the time and money it’s probably not a terrible idea although you may want to try to narrow down your list to two of them and then just visit those two.

Getting to the campus’s of those you are considering is essential. You are talking the next four years of your life and you want to be happy you went there.

Four hour drive between Twin Cities and Madison. You’ll like both campuses. The Minneapolis campus is somewhat larger and is set along the Mississippi and under two mile from Downtown. Madison is on a lake and very close to the capitol area.

Rent a car to get between campuses – it is not that bad a drive. Good luck!

I probably would rent a car to drive myself between the two campus but I am not 21 so probably couldn’t get it rent.

Ah, good point. Well, any chance your family would be able to afford to have a parent go with you? It is also good from the chance to bounce impressions off of.

Sadly, my mother is a single parent who is also a business owner so that option will not work.

If you don’t have a parent that will go with you, then you can’t rent a car. Rental companies typically don’t rent to those who are under 21.

Also…since you asked about your FA pkgs, I wouldn’t make ANY arrangements til you get your FA pkgs.

It’s VERY LIKELY that the OOS publics will expect you to pay full price. The instate public might also expect you to pay all costs.
Your scores aren’t high enough for merit chances.

What is your home state? (edit…Mississippi)

What is your FAFSA EFC?

edited to add… I see from another thread that you’re OOS for all these schools :(

how much will your mom pay?

Did you apply to ANY instate schools? These OOS schools are going to expect you to pay large amounts of their high OOS costs.

*Class Rank: Top 5% (15/345)
3.9 UW GPA
AP Courses- I will graduate with 5 AP courses.
- Cal., Chem., Eng Comp. and Lit. , U.S History
(School offer only 6 AP courses)

ACT: 26 (27 super score) Writing-8
- Score Breakdown E-28 M-27 R-24 S-24 Composite- 26*

The data is a little bit outdated. 28 on the ACT now. Anyway UMN gave me 15k per year (18k is OOS) and 14k more in government loan so the school is covered.

Something doesn’t make sense…

$14k in loans???

Can you post the actual breakdown of your aid pkg? and include the type of loans?
