UCSD vs UW

Hi guys,I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice?
I got into University of Washington-Seattle and UCSD,but I’m not sure which one I should choose?
UCSD: Human Biology Major-Muir College
UW: Pre science (kind of iffy since I heard that it’s competitive to get into a biology major)
Tuition is not a problem for me.
Which one should I choose especially since I plan to go to Med School?
Better Social life? Weather?
Thank you!

Both Human Bio and Muir are very popular at UCSD. I don’t know much about UW or the pre-science major, unfortunately, but both campuses have medical schools, several local hospitals and very high research activity which means neither is a bad choice for a premed student.

Social life: UW. Weather: UCSD.

What are you looking for from your undergraduate experience? I can try to answer some more specific questions to help you determine which one you’d like better

thanks for the reply.
I guess i’m looking for a good college that would prepare me for med school and has a nice balance of social life. It would be nice if the college town has a lot of things to do and has a friendly atmosphere!

College that will prepare you for med school:
UCSD can definitely if not easily do that. Something like one in four kids is a biology major and everyone starts out trying to be pre-med. There are pre-med advisers and dozens of pre-med student organizations, and loads of volunteering and research opportunities (fifth largest research budget in the country) across campus.

Balance of social life:
UCSD doesn’t have huge “St. Fratty’s Day” or Project X-style ragers by any means. However, on Saturdays you can usually find a party (fall quarter I found two each weekend) if you try. I didn’t rush, but going Greek would help with that since there’s usually something going on with them. Party scene and/or school spirit aside, people at UCSD are generally friendly and welcoming. Everyone wants to make new friends and enjoy the campus and weather.

La Jolla isn’t your typical college town, though. Because the campus is so big and self-contained it’s somewhat isolated from the rest of the town, and downtown LJ is less for us and more for the rich folks living in their vacation homes. Here’s an idea of the distances from typical destinations (keeping in mind that I’m in Revelle College which is near many bus stops):

  • Price Center: middle of campus, 3-4x a week
  • La Jolla Village Square shops: 10 min walk, 5 min bus; 1-2x a week
  • UTC mall: 10 min bus, 1x a week/every other week
  • La Jolla Shores/Black’s Beach: 15+ min walk, 10 min bus, 1-2x a week after February
  • Downtown La Jolla: 15 min bus, 1x a week/every other week
  • Downtown San Diego: 30 minute drive, 80 minute bus, 1x a month/every other month
That doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do, of course; I guess you just have to want to do things. It’s easy to have fun
