I am trying to deside if I want UCSD or UCLA. I was accepted to both. UCLA will give me 20k/29k a year to go to their school and UCSD will give me 28k/28k a year to go to there school. I dont know which I should do. I really like UCLA but money... and UCSD is still really good... I dont know what I wanna major in. Engineering or Bussiness idk

What woul yall do?

UCSD bro. You’re going to FREE! Hell, I’d go to the community college if I had everything for free. Take UCSD bro.

Are you passionate about school spirit? It can often be a distraction for students who are primarily concerned with doing well academically. The same goes for partying/being around fellow students who are very crazy about partying.

UCSD = Excellent reputation; not much school-spirit or party scene, you have the beach essentially in front of you.
UCLA = Excellent reputation; hardcore school spirit (team Bruins, with all its games of football, basketball, dorm beer pong parties, etc.).

lucky you, I only got 14,000 lol

Are your parents contributing nothing? If they aren’t then I would suggest UCSD. If they are contributing at least 3k a year then I would go for UCLA. 15k - 20k in debt is manageable. You could pay it off just working summers.

Can’t say for sure since I don’t go to either, but I hear that a lot of students who got into both and went for SD kinda regret not going for LA.

Not that they totally regret it, but they can’t help to wonder. Personally I would reccomend LA because it has so many connections and everything.

Definately UCSD, especially if you plan to attend graduate school as both are great schools.

I think both ranking and prestige-wise, UCLA is higher. I mean, it’s up there with Berkeley, Stanford, Cal Tech and the like. US News and World Report ranks UCLA #2 in the Top Public Universities vs. #7 for UCSD.

However, ranking and prestige doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good school or that it’s a good fit for you. Have you visited both of them? Do you like the atmosphere? Which has better programs? Can you pay the rest of the fees or do you have to go into debt? They’re both amazing schools- I wish I got in. I was waitlisted for UCSD. :(

In the end, it depends on what matters to you.

of the 28/28 you received from UCSD is that all scholarship/grants and money you don’t have to pay back?
The same question for UCLA, is the 20/29 all scholarships/grants and money you don’t have to pay back?
I only ask because if those figures include loans, then you need to compare what you don’t have to pay back to what you have to take out in loans for each school.

Also take into consideration that sometimes off campus housing (if you room or rent off campus with buddies after your first year dorming) can end up being cheaper and you can end up bringing that total cost of attendance down.

Lastly, I’d just like to add that in the end you’re pursuing majors that are “practical” in the sense that at either school, you’re probably going to be in one of the few departments that often gets recruited by employers. If you love UCLA, that 9K might not matter in the end especially if you’re going into career fields that have higher entry level salaries than other majors.
