Anyone?! Please help ^^ see my previous post. Thanks
Post #100, I would call UCSD admission office right away. Don’t wait.
These are all freshmen because transfer students’ waitlist decisions come out after June 1st!
Have any Engineering majors been accepted off the waitlist because I applied Electrical Engineering and from what I’ve heard, no engineering majors have been accepted…
@yorohit13 They accepted a CSE major who posted in this thread as undeclared. I expect that if they follow standard admissions processes, UCSD will admit students off the waitlist then assign them to majors, so a lot of admitted waitlistees will probably end up undeclared.
Has anyone heard anything recently???
nope. im an EE major and even though I wanted to go to UCSD I learned to lose hope and not expect much. you’d be surprised how free you become once you relieve these anticipations.
@toesockshoe May I ask if you’re a transfer or a freshman?
@Alfendi im a freshman. why do you ask?
Maybe he is same with me, transfer. Also WL by UCSD. Glad to hear a lot good news from you guys.
I got accepted from the wait list as biochemistry and cell biology in Marshall college!!! This was my first choice but I already submitted my sir to Davis and kind of fell in love with it as I thought I had no chance of ever getting off the wait list… I’m just worried about all the competition and the social life in SD whereas in Davis I hear it’s a great college experience… I really love the city of San Diego though! I really don’t know what to choose
someone please help ! ^^
Hey makeuplover, before I try to offer you some advice, I just want to tell you, I did not get accepted to Davis. I am waitlisted at SD though. Two of my closest friends attend Davis, one a freshman, the other a junior. They seem to love the experience, just like you mentioned. My sister already goes to SD and is also in Marshall for Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She doesn’t have much school pride. It is very competitive and often stressful, but since you were accepted you can probably handle it. Depending on what your plan is for after undergrad, you may want to choose the school you feel you are more likely to succeed in. In my case I SIRed to SB for now. Sometimes you can’t help it, you just like some colleges and you don’t like others. People always tell you “You’ll know if it’s the school you want when you visit it,” and sometimes that really is the case. In this situation, Davis and SD are both great schools, so it really just depends on where you feel you will succeed. You will spend four years at the school, so make sure you choose whichever school you are actually excited to attend, the school you will look forward to starting after this summer, and the school you feel you will succeed in. Any doubt regarding competition and social life that makes you worried or insecure is not worth burdening for the next three and a half months of summer. It would not be good to choose the school you simply feel compelled to attend, because in the end, it is your inner motivation in that school’s environment that will motivate you to succeed. If you are already excited for Davis as it seems you are, go and enjoy it. I don’t mean to tell you to go one way or the other, I just wanted to share my opinion with you. I hope this helps you a little bit at least. Good luck and Congratulations!
Sorry, as a last note I’d like to add, it’s very admirable when you choose the school for the school. As in don’t let the superficiality guide you. I have a friend who chose to attend Davis (also a graduating high school senior this year) while she was accepted to UCLA, UCB, and UCSD. In the larger scheme of things, all that matters is that you go where you know you want to, because all these schools are great!
Again, sorry if I am writing so much, but I was terribly confused about choosing a college these past two months were rough. The fact that you did not automatically change your SIR upon getting in from the wait list along with the fact that you are really asking for help in deciding, is proof to me that there is definitely one school you actually want to go to. Just go with what your heart tells you friend
@thisismyname1 OH MY GOSH… Don’t say sorry for writing so much, I loved your response and it was exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for putting in the time to say all that, that was great!!! I’ve been looking through all these “UCD vs UCSD” forums to help make my decision but what you said was exactly what I needed! Wow sorry for repeating myself so much but I just really loved your response!
The whole thing didn’t post but I just want to say thank you so much , your response couldn’t have been any more perfect for me! Wish you the best of luck!
You’re so sweet, thank you! I’m glad I could help.
Whatever you do, don’t pick UCD over UCSD for social reasons. San Diego is paradise, no matter what type of person you are. Beautiful beaches are 2 minutes away, you can surf, you can take advantage of the Gaslamp District or Pacific Beach (killer bars), and if you are into house parties there are thousands of kids in frats and sororities (something like 10 percent of UCSD students are in greek life).
UCSD is definitely an academically serious campus and you will run into a lot of nerds/bookish people, but there is so much to do socially as well. Davis is a great school but let’s be frank, it’s in a terrible location relative to San Diego/La Jolla. If you were to choose Davis, make sure it’s for a better reason. UCSD is a blast.
It can’t be a boring and socially dead university when they just had 100 students took off the top on campus.
