UCSD Waitlist Removal, Incase You Changed Your Mind

So, I was on the UCSD myapplication website, and it seems like you can remove yourself from the waitlist.

I just wanted to say, if you don't see yourself going to UCSD and already like another school much more than UCSD, then it would be very kind of you to remove yourself from the waitlist and give all the people who want to go there a higher chance of getting in. Thanks! :)

Good luck man, I know you wanted UCSD so much (I did too, but part of it was just the city)
I’ll be at UCI; again I’ll be hoping for the next few years to pass by quickly(just like I did when I was at CCC lol), so I could go and live in SD

Part of why I still want it is because of the computer science ranking (#15 grad ranking according to usnews), but I think I prefer Davis for the other aspects. Davis is ranked #34 for grad ranking according to usnews. I assume the grad rankings an undergrad rankings are similar.

Originally UCSD was my first choice, but then Idk, I started accepting Davis more and more (regardless of program ranking). I’ve SIRed to Davis, but I will consider UCSD if I get in from the waitlist. Oh yah, also, depending on how much aid I get from UCSD if admitted, I will also take that into consideration. So far, Davis is offering me the most money.

Does rankings usually don’t make any sense. Have you ever seen this one?!

Landing a job in this field depends mostly on the person and what he has done in his time at college(research, internship etc), so I’m not worried about the CS programs in UCSD and UCI and their differences. That being said, I mostly liked UCSD’s campus and the city and everything, so that’s why I prefer it to UCI.
I wonder if there’s a way to transfer there after one year at UCI!

UCD is a great school too, I didn’t apply for it though, since it’s too far from LA.

Yah, that’s true; experience is huge. But I think that a bit of status can sometimes convince the employer to reconsider the applicant lol.

For the rankings I used the US News & World Reports source. I typed “(name of school) computer science ranking” on Google.

Then, I clicked on the one url that starts off with like: grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/… (usually the first link). There, you can see like the grad rankings of each department (computer science included).

Here are the direct links:

UCSD: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/university-of-california-san-diego-110680

UCD: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/university-of-california-davis-110644

Based on those links, the grad rankings for computer science are:

15 UCSD

29 UCI

34 UCD

I flew to socal on Wed (I’m from the bay area), and saw UCI. Then, I took Amtrak train to Solana Beach and took a bus to get to UCSD. There I stayed with a friend over the night, and did the official campus tour just yesterday. I got back home last night lol.

Wow…I’ve been two UCSD once, the campus is nice(but too spread out). I love La Jolla and the surroundings. what do you think of UCI? lol

I thought it was ok. I didn’t like the surrounding area as much as UCSD. As for UCD, I like it for it’s college town and generally more integrated school (like, less spread out = more chances I’ll see students).

Wait, did you ever appeal to UCSD?

I know, that’s what I heard about UCI…
yeah, long story lol
