Made this thread for those who were waitlisted at UCSD this time around. Post your major, your stats, and whether you plan on taking the waitlist position or not.
Goodluck to all.
I was waitlisted to Biology with Specialization in Bioinformatics.
@thejappster UCSD’s waiting list isn’t too lucky, not many get in from it, but UC Davis’s proves that anything can happen, as last year more than half of the waiting list got in while the year before barely any got in. Hopefully this year will be our lucky year!
@Hannahkim Honestly, the essay (and your senior year grades) determines your priority on the waiting list, not necessarily whether you get in or not. If there is space to include people from the waiting list, then they will look down the waiting list starting from the top priority.
@Bankersheim Because what else can it determine? It can’t get you in if there is no space. If there is space for a certain major, they’ll look towards the person with that major with the best stats out of the waitlist.
@bigdreams23 I was thinking about appealing as well, but I am not really sure about the process. Do appeals really help if you’re already on the waitlist?
I was waitlisted with
UC GPA: 4.2
SAT: 2310
MATH 2: 800
CHEM: 750
Major: Biochemistry and Cell Biology
@bigdreams23@tiredaf16 Appeals are done once you have been rejected. You should only appeal if you have new information to present to the admissions team (such as awards, etc.), as they have “already made their decision with the current information.”
You can only supply your essay and senior year grades, according to UC Davis. I’ll call UCSD tomorrow and see if we can add anything to our waitlist position to make it more appealing.
Do you guys know if the waitlist is first come first serve? I have some schools that are first come first serve, but that doesn’t really make sense for UCSD.
@tiredaf16@honcho The UCSD waitlist FAQs has a question that says those who don’t receive an offer of admission are able to appeal that decision whether or not they are on the waitlist so I’m assuming you can be rejected or waitlisted to appeal a decision. And I don’t think appeals can hurt you, if anything(and this is all my opinion) I would think they might make you appear more likely to come because you are trying to do everything you can to get accepted by the school.
SAT: 2170 (740 M, 780 W, 650 CR)
SAT II: 690 EB, a few others not reported
ECs:
3 Year Poetry Blog Owner and Writer
4 Years of JV Cross Country
2 Years JV Track and Field
2 Years Secretary of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Club
1 Year Secretary of Green Club
Took a 3 week Psych Course at UCSD last summer
Application:
Pretty great essays imo- very personal and about overcoming a large obstacle in my life, while showing leadership
Supplemental Request- Did
important to acknowledge: I had a B+ on my record at the time of submitting the questionnaire; however, after discovering an error, it was changed to an A- (grrrrrrr)
Will definitely be reserving my spot on the Waitlist
Additionally, after clicking in to see the waitlist essay form, I did not see any space for putting in GPA for senior year. it is possible that that occurs after essay submission…but idk.
@jackisawesome From the waitlist FAQ. I don’t think they will look at senior year grades.
Q: Can I send letters of recommendation or other documents?
A: No. Additional materials (including letters of recommendation) cannot be accepted. If you do send them, they will not be reviewed. Only the initial application and the waitlist statement may be considered in making admission decisions
That’s what I was thinking too @FarWestCoast I just am not sure if I should tell them that one of the grades listed on the supplemental questionnaire that I sent in is lower than the grade I actually received, due to a grade change after the fact.
