UCSD Waitlist Thread [Class of 2020]

Anyone here receive anything for the UC Davis waitlist if you’re on it?

I got in off of the wait list yesterday guys! International student, 39/45 IB Predicted, 2110 SAT. Got into Marshall for Psychology/Human Health (1st choice) :slight_smile:

@Slayeraven awesome! Grats!

This is definately an international student thing lol.

Quick question, I am a transfer student who got waitlisted.

So I did the 150-200 word essay and hit submit. Am I suppose to get an email that it was submitted or get some sort of message that my spot on the waitlist is confirmed?

The front page on the portal is still letting me link and go to the page where the essay is submitted.
Is that normal?

@BlackPlasma Your essay must have not gone through. Try resubmitting your essay. If things don’t work out, call UCSD admissions and they’ll transfer you to IT or something.

What you’re supposed to get is a Waitlist Confirmation message once you have submitted your essay. Try re-logging in when you submit your essay to double check.

@honcho
Cool. I did and now the page says waitlist confirmed with a option to rescind the waitlist reservation. Thanks!

Any CA residents/out of state people get in from the waitlist yet?

@yataboi why, did only international students get off the wait list?

It seems like only Int Students who got off the waitlist gets the email/notification prior to May 1st. I got mine on April 26th.

@catswin I think it’s because the UCs dedicate a certain portion of their school demographic to international students. There may be open spots for international students, but not for OOS/CA students. I’ve also heard that they’re trying to bring more international students in.

@ShipAlreadySank No, I’d wait until mid/late-May to make that assumption.

Anyone think there’s a chance they are only accepting international students? :confused:

I would honestly just keep waiting and not make any assumptions. We still have a full month until all results will be released and only then will we know what actually happened about the 2016 waitlist

I hope they release something soon. I feel like I’ve been waiting for any eternity tbh. No one has been accepted off the waitlist in the US/cali so definitely don’t loose hope unless our portal says another “we regret to inform…”. I’m keeping up hope but also I know I have to accept the college I am going to SIR to.

Perhaps they’re just giving the international students priority? If they’ve started offering waitlisted students a spot at UCSD they have room. And they started with international students. If some of those students decline, perhaps we’ll get the second go-around?

if i’m being completely honest, its probably a way for ucsd to scope out more money than they’d get from an instate student. I’m sure oos and international are very well qualified but its probably a tactic for them to get more money. It does not make sense to start releasing waitlist decisions before may 1st. Thats just my two sense tho. We’ll see if there are any more spots for us waitlisters, soon. Please don’t make us wait till june 1st ;c

Hey guys :)>- !!! I’m a US citizen (but out the country) and I’ve been accepted of the waitlist 2 daysish ago :smiley: ! I’m going to UMich so there’ll be a spot open for one of u guys hopefully! I do agree with @sarale about the money thing, though I’m not sure how they can offer spots before the SIR deadline :-/ Good luck though peeps~

It is probably true that they are looking to bring more international students in, as well as trying to receive more money since OOS and int. students pay much more. But it can be false entirely. Who knows. Hoping you guys get off the waitlist soon. Best of luck.

It may also be a way to get more international students (UCs like to have a certain amount, although not specific enough to count as an illegal “quota”). Regardless, they earned it, as does everyone put on the waitlist. We just have to wait (and hopefully more peacefully than we did for the last decision release) and hope that the admissions decisions rule in our favor.

ALSO, I thought that this may be a good way to diffuse the tension associated with the waitlist: If we are not offered a spot at UCSD, where are we all heading? I have SIRed to UCSB under the honors program for biopsychology :slight_smile:

I’m heading to UCI for Biological Sciences!
