^I would say it’s decently important to try to find out what you want to major in sooner than later. So, I would be looking at classes to take for a potential major. Even if you end up majoring in something completely different than in the classes you were originally taking, maybe they could then work as a PofC. And also, I’m pretty sure singles are more popular than doubles and triples, so you’ll be fine anyway.

I really have no idea what I want in a major or what job opportunities are available for different majors, so I guess I just need to talk to an academic advisor or someone at some point. I’ve been looking through all the UCSD majors and while some interest me, I feel like they don’t lead to jobs I’ll enjoy (nor do I know what most majors are like, really.)

And I’m not worried about what room type I get, I just really want to dorm in Warren and avoid overflow housing.

:D I’m actually quite happy about Warren’s leniency

Are Warren people generally exciting? I’m quite a sociable person and I absolutely love events and just having a good time in general (not exactly partying all day, more like just hanging out). Has anyone here had a roommate that was just terrible from Warren? I’d love to find someone who’s kind of like me, study hard and party hard :D

^I had a roommate who pretty much hated our entire suite last year. The roommate preference thing isn’t perfect, but still, I understand why we got put together. It just didn’t work out so great though. Don’t worry, you’ll find your friends if you’re active and involved.

Hmm thanks Kings, Also, I was wondering, what’s the deal with apartments? Are they more or less cramped than the triple rooms? I have more or less of a financial issue so even the smallest things like housing make a difference :/

^Apartments are much less cramped. There’s WAY more storage space in the apartment so you don’t have to have as much stuff in your room. And it’s not that the res halls are unlivable or anything, you’ll just be a little bit strapped for space. I had enough space for all my stuff though. And then apartments have plenty of space. It’s also fair to note, if you look at the prices for res halls, you’ll see that it’s a little bit more expensive, but you’ll also be getting over $600 more in dining dollars. I’d hate to think that price should be the difference between choosing an apartment over the res halls. The only reason I recommend the res halls in general is because I think it’s a good place to be in a suite with 9 other freshmen and live in that freshmen community. Either way is totally fine though.

how does warren decide if you are placed in black hall, douglas, etc for apartments? Is it first come first serve, whoever signs up first (for returning undergrads) or do those who have selected suitemates get priority?

^You can put down apartments as your housing preference if you want, but I don’t know how they go about assigning freshmen to them.

I was admitted into UCSD and the housing app didn’t ask me any questions. Is that how it’s supposed to be or did it malfunction somehow? It just asked me to confirm my email and address. It didn’t feel like an app at all. I keep going back to the site to try and look back on it but there is just a confirmation message of my application being received. Something tells me I messed up and I’m going to be stuck somewhere I would not want to be with people I have nothing in common with. If anyone could help calm my worries that’d be great.

^That’s all you have to do at this point. They’ll send you the housing preferences thing in early June.

Ahh thank you! Your posts on the UCSD threads have me leaning more towards UCSD rather than UCSB. (:

^Oh well that’s good! I know UCSD is not for everyone so I just try to tell it like it is so people can make a more informed decision. Nothing helps more than visiting the campus though, which goes for all universities.

Yes I live in the Los Angeles area and I’m planning on going to admit day but I’m hoping they accept my application for the SPACES program, I’d love to experience living in a res hall and sitting in on some classes before making my decision. Is it true that they only invite select students for that?

Does anyone know approximately when move in day will be? Around September 20th?

Also, I saw that last year, orientation was like on September 17th-ish. Is there only one Warren orientation? What do you do btwn orientation and move in?

Oh, and when do we register for classes, approx.?

Sorry, these might qualify as dumb/obvious questions :D

^Move in will be September 14th and orientation will be the 15th and 16th. And you’ll register for classes late August.

Ahhh, thank you! I thought it would be weird having orientation a few days before move-in, haha.
