You’ll notice I’ve never denied that UCSD has many programs which are stronger than at Irvine. What I object to is the notion that SD is “WAY” better than irvine. It’s not like we’re talking about Irvine vs. Cal.

The difference is small, and found mainly in the strength of science programs. As I said, the entire discipline of humanities (which is not some small, nitpicky detail as you’re trying to make it out to be) is much stronger at UCI. It’s not like these schools are light years apart.

grey_syntatics, do you go to one of these two schools? Is there a reason you care so much, since you asked me?

I don’t think anyone meant UCSD is “WAY” better than UCI at everything. It’s just that there is a preconceived notion among high school students and the general population (Not only in the U.S. but also in Asia) that UCSD is an all around better school than UCI. Pick any random high school kid and ask them which school is more “prestigious” and harder to get into. Most will say UCSD.

sndebrosse,

I never contested that UCSD is “WAY” better than UCI. UCI has its merits as a school, and I wholly acknowledge that. What I flat-out won’t acknowledge is that Irvine is a better city than La Jolla. Come on, now!

And no, I don’t attend either of these schools. I’ll be attending USC in the fall. My girlfriend for 2 1/2 years goes to UCSD so I’ve been there and stood countless weekends. Also, some of my HS friends go to UCI, and I’ve stood there many weekends aswell, albeit not as many as at UCSD. I just notice the difference, and it’s quite noticeable in my eyes.

You’re right though, I don’t REALLY care, so I’m going to stop bordering on bashing on your school – that’s kind of a d1ck move. D:

Lol, I hate these types of threads anyway…I don’t know why I bothered posting here. People are entitled to their own opinions. In my opinion, SD is a lot better (for me anyway, and I’ve done my homework). Not everyone will agree and I’m not saying everyone should.

People just need to stop coming to these threads and taking advice from others about which college they should go to…in the end, it’s your future and not theirs. Just do your homework and research. It’s going to be your experience and not someone else’s.

And I’ve been guilty, too! I realized how lame it was when I started my “Triton vs Trojan” thread.

There is something very very wrong with any individual that prefers Irvine to La Jolla- there doesnt even need to be a discussion of school quality if you can not admit a simple truth that La Jolla is eons better than Irvine.
