UCSD who is still waiting for acceptance?

Nobody knows and they aren’t telling.

Electrical Engineering
3.91
Muir or Warren (I don’t remember which I put 1st)
No IGETC
No TAG (not all the pre-reqs are articulated at my CC, but I should have tried to TAG anyways)

Any proof of TRANSFERS being rejected? I’ve only heard of freshman being rejected thus far. I think it’s true that all rejected applicants hear on April 30th (transfer). Can anyone prove this wrong? From past experience I know many Universities send their rejection letters as late as possible including USC (been rejected there several times, heard on the final day every time).

Yup UCSD posts all transfer rejections on the last day.

This is a serious question: What’s the rationale behind telling all rejected students on the last day? Does anyone know?

Because there are going to be people who get in because of room left over. They can make final rejection decisions when they know what room they have left. Now, some people have no chance of getting in and they should just get put out of their misery early. But the ones who are sort of on the line, leaning towards rejection, may get lucky.

are they done reviewing applications or are they just releasing in batches for fun?

I dont think thats why catfood. UCSD has a very strict numerical based admissions process. If you have a certain gpa and a certain amount of units you are in automatically, if not you get rejected. They dont care about anything else.

Actually no, lbc, they said that their focus was more holistic this year

^^ where’d you hear that?

Still waiting. Decisions cant come soon enough.

I, too, have heard rumors of UCSD switching to a more holistic review process this year, but I’ve not seen it confirmed officially. I suspect it’s more out of necessity… With so many TAG applicants, they have to spend considerably more time on deciding which Non-TAG applicants to admit.

That actually brings up an interesting thought. Particularly this year, with the huge surge in TAGs (and applicants in general), how does UCSD determine how many discretionary applicants (ie, non-TAG) can be safely admitted based on the number of seats available?

If they had historical enrollment statistics it would be easier, but how can they know how many of the TAG applicants will SIR, especially since many TAG applicants applied to multiple schools? Though I could be wrong, I suspect that a higher percentage of the whole applicant pool are TAGed than in the past, in addition to the overall size of the pool being larger.

If it were me, I’d probably only admit TAG applicants, and waitlist everyone else (well, everyone who is competitive but non-TAG). That doesn’t appear to be what they’re doing… I’d be interested to know their methodology.

I heard from a good source that they are switching to holistic next year but they will do a combination of the holistic and old system this year as a transition thing for next year.

@catfoodjar - That’s what I thought the rationale might be.

Yeah my thought was entirely a guess. Just seemed logical. I had no real merits for that idea, it just made sense to me because it seems like there has to be some bar for the borderline cases.

Major: communications
College: Muir
GPA: 3.1
TAG: ya
IGETC: ya

but im switching my major to econ.

swaaaaaag

Major: Political Science International Relations
College: Thurgood Marshall
GPA: 3.98
IGETC: YES
TAG: YES

I really just want the final decision posted. Hopefully, I wont have to wait for another month.

Have they released another batch yet?

@Random_Monkey – I don’t think they have. I believe someone on this website said they will not release another batch until mid April, while someone else said that last year they released batches every two weeks. I plan on checking this Saturday, since that will be exactly two weeks since the first batch was released. If I hear nothing then, then I’m going to wait until the 30th of April. Although SD is a great school, it is not my first choice since it is so far away from where I live. No reason to stress too much over it and check all the time like I have been this past week and a half.
