Other information:

Extra-Curricular Activities: I haven't been involved at my school too much. I plan on changing that. I'm joining wrestling Junior year as well as Mathletes. My friend and I plan on making a club based on community service. I'm part of my church community (TNTT) and I spend 8 hours every Sunday there. I volunteer at a hospital in the summer and my hours added up are approximately 200-300. I might take college courses over the summer but that's still in play. I take Taekwondo and I used to play piano which I might continue.

Of course I plan on scoring high on the SAT mainly 1900+ and doing well on my college essay. UCSD is my dream, and I'm working hard to get there. I'm also aiming for Air Force ROTC! Thanks for taking your time to read as well as replying (if you are replying.)

I think your grades are on the low side for UCSD, but you still have one year left. UC schools only count the sophomore and junior years though, so make sure to work hard. Use this website as a guideline: http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2012/fall_2012_admissions_chart2.pdf

Your extracurriculars look solid but remember, depth over breadth. You may want to give up one of focus on your grades, which is the weakest part of your application. It seems that TNTT is your best EC. I would recommend doing TNTT for the rest of your life because it is awesome. I wish I had continued TNTT and it is very beneficial for you in college and in life. Good luck!

Thanks! What else do you think I can work on to improve my chances? Grades are one. SAT is another factor but I haven’t taken that yet so make sure I do good.

I would recommend that you study SAT the summer between your sophomore and junior years and take the fall tests. That way, you will have lots of time to study and you can get it over with. As I said earlier, don’t overload yourself with ECs. Just focus on a few. Why do you want to go to UCSD by the way?

I’ve been looking into this college for quite some time and I set it as my goal. I feel like it’s a decent school for engineering as well. I realized my grades weren’t doing so hot this year and I picked it up this term and the rest because I knew that UCSD is getting closer. Thanks for helping again! Can I contact you if I have any more questions?

Absolutely, I do not mind at all. UCSD is indeed a very nice school.
