UCSD's atmosphere

How is it? If I'm lucky, I'll be accepted there (I heard their admission process is based on a point-based system, and I am pretty confident I have a strong chance). Everyone who has gone there from my school never seems to keep up contact like those who go to UCLA, Berkeley, etc. I don't hear good things nor bad things about the campus, other than the fact that each of its colleges is distinct and that it's separate and large (whatever that's supposed to mean lol).

So whether you're a UCSD student, have gone there or know someone who goes there (sibling, friend, etc.), what have you heard about its overall vibe and aura? What are some of the things its known for, and is it situated in a "college town"? I'm aware that these are naive questions, but I really don't know anything about the campus or student life at all.

It is not situated in a college town but there is plenty to do here if you have a car.

I LOVE UCSD and I am having the best time ever here!

if you do get in, visit during admit day
its up to you to decide if you like it

it is not in a college town like UC Davis, UC Berkeley, etc
it is in la jolla, in kinda like the northern part of San Diego, lots of apartment complexes just outside of the campus (south/southeastern side)
it is kinda isolated by the highways around it.
it is up on a hill if you're driving up gilman.
ahhaha

you can get to other places in san diego by car (the quickest way)

i cant say much because im a winter admit and I am not yet there. ugh.

There have been plenty of threads on this topic in the past.

Typically a quiet campus... finals week and midterms times are VERYYY quiet. I think alot of it comes from the demand from the courses. (at least for science majors). Rumors say that Science majors get it the hardest here especially the premeds. Non-science majors typically will have an easier time.

Party scene is nonexistent on campus. Its all OFF campus which you just need to search for. There are parties and there is a party life but you just kind of need to force yourself into it.

Like the other upper tier UC's the atmosphere can be perceived as snobby however people are typically nice. Apparently "stupid" people are looked down upon. In my math class we asked an asian guy about his graphing utility on his laptop and he closed it up without saying a word and just left.

I actually like the surrounding. I can find anything I want in La Jolla/ San Diego. Seems like the west side off campus is the rich side and the east/south side has all the homeless sitting at the buses. There is a nice amount of off campus dining.

Try visiting on a WEEKDAY to get a good idea of the campus between finals and midterms because weekends/finals/midterms the campus is usually DEAD.

Oh crap personal statement: umm I'm a human bio major so im basically working my *** off knowing it WILL pay off.

I enjoy the school overall and proud of my decision of coming here.

Mostly nitrogen with a touch of oxygen, and hints of H20, CO2, and Argon.

Lol... studying chem too?

I think it's what you make of it. But it's generally a lot more quiet than the other schools. It's a very strong science-oriented school but still pretty boring. It's intense courseloads for the engineering majors.
