UCSD's Computer Engineering ranks so high, yet its not ABET accredited. Why is that? and does it really mattter?

What about their mathematics/computer science major? (Mathematics department)

Any insight about that?

From what I’ve read it does not matter. For example, Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, Cornell, and Cal Tech are also not ABET in CS.

@AirforceWuhn

does that apply to Computer Engineering too?

Yes, both of my parents are in this field. Both have graduate degrees(MS, Phd).
Edit to add that ABET accredited can serve to “validate” that a particularly obscure or unknown school’s CS/CE degree program meets some minimum standard of quality.
UCSD is well known in Computer Science and Computer Engineering for more than 30 years, at least that is how long my parents have been working in this field.

My uncle has a PE for mechanical engineering but he never had to use it.
