hell yeah^ and me :)

Btw, when I sent an email to The Village earlier, this was part of the response:

“And in answer to your last question, Single rooms are still on a lottery system, however the benefit of Village East being open for Fall 2011 is that we now have over 350+ singles available in the entire community. While we can’t guarantee that you will get a single, there is a good chance that you may receive one”

I have no problem with doubles really. I’ve had my own room my whole life and I’m ready to embrace the “university life”. I already feel like I missed out SO MUCH from going to CC instead of actual universities.

You can get the “university life” without having to sleep 5 feet away from someone, have them wake you up when they leave in the morning, and knock on your own bedroom door before entering, haha.

Even if you get a single you’ll still have 3-4 roommates in the apartment, it’s not a single apartment.

Haha true. I’m excited nonetheless

I don’t like how UCSD is doing the Village Room Selection. The transfer students don’t even have a chance unless they are saving a certain number of rooms for us. I think everyone should be involved at the lottery at the same time.

if it means i get a single then yes. I agree, $800 difference between a double and single is stupid.

I don’t know if I’d pay $20,400 (at that point I’d just a fat apartment off campus to myself) but I’d definitely drop another $3k-$5k for a single.

$800 more per year? What was UCSD thinking?

^Agreed.

If I get in, I’ll REALLY want a single. To the extent that I’ll go off-campus if I don’t get one…they should just should just convert most of the doubles to singles…

@SDhopeful [UCSD Commuter Services](http://offcampushousing.ucsd.edu/)

Log in with your mytritonlink info on that site. People post rooms for rent, or if they need roommates, etc on there (students and non students). I ended up looking on craigslist and found about 8 places I went and looked at and settled on one I really like. You can find a single room off campus for between $600 and $800 a month. If you are on financial aid, the fao gives you the exact same money whether you live on campus at the village or off campus (unless you live with your parents).

@andy how much do you typically spend per month on other things besides the room? Like are internet/utilities/food/commuting/etc separate, and if so how much?

I’m trying to get a feel for the pricing of living on my for the first time while going to UCSD, whether it’s on-campus or off-campus.

@SDhopeful I spend about $150 a month total on utilities/internet/cable. Parking permits at ucsd are ridiculously expensive, but you can park for free at the gliderport by (close to the village) during the day and then walk to the shuttle (5 minute walk). I don’t spend a ton on food, im not sure exactly how much to be honest. Most of my money seems to go to the coffee stands on campus. Personally I think you can find a place off campus that is much cheaper than the village.

Fingers crossed for a single!!

I remember when I was initially looking at colleges and the housing they offered, I was surprised to see just how nice the options at UCSD actually were. I being 21, would want a room to myself. The biggest problem with on campus housing for me is that pets aren’t allowed and some schools don’t offer parking for on campus housing. I don’t really want to give up my pet or car. :(

Did anyone else get a village packet in the mail today?

you can still bring your car if you purchase the $800 parking permit.

@blkbox- got mine today.

got mine today! can’t wait to go check out the village on admit day. :)

i can’t wait either! What else are you guys planning on doing on admit day? the only thing that looks interesting to me are the tours

so if you think about it… you are spending $400 more each month to have that rite of passage of college dorm life. I’ve done that Davis and I got over it very quickly. I am going to be 22 soon, not 18. So I looked on facebook marketplace for apartments too. There are some pretty apartments for like $550 - $600. But I was thinking since we are all are starting Fall together, I am looking for roomie to go apartment shopping. :)

Anyone interested?

"Because we are grown adults, most of us are 21+ not 17. And if you need a room mate to be social I think your the one who needs help in the social setting. "

Just thought you should know that there are plenty of transfers who are going to be 19 when they start. (including me). Haha so you are saying people who are 21+ shouldn’t need room mates because they are “grown adults”? I don’t see the problem with wanting a room mate. I think it’d be fun, even if i consider myself a “grown adult” at 19.
