Hi! My name is Katy. Im a current student at UD. I've also lived in Delaware for almost my entire life. Im a 24 year old sophmore actually (transfer), and I can help answer questions from people who are curious about UD.

I did the foundations art program my first year, and now Im in the Visual Communications program (they only accepted 42 students this year into the entire sophmore program).

I didn't live on campus last year, but I did visit a lot of my friends there and I've been in the George Reed building many many times, which is a freshman building, so if you have any questions about that I dont mind answering!

If you have questions about Main Street, commuting, Delaware in general, dont be afraid to ask. I know a lot about visiting Philadelphia as well, and nearby malls and all of that since I've lived in Delaware a long time.

since you mentioned visiting philadelphia, do you know any ways to do that without a car that aren't too expensive? i was also looking at bus schedules but it seems like those end up doubling the time it would take to get there in a car (i dont have a car) because they make so many stops along the way. any tips?

This is the link to SEPTA and the train schedule. It's much faster than taking a bus. Unfortunately the student fares are good only for students in Phillie schools, but it is cheaper than driving.

If you're living in Newark, the only way to get to Philly without a car, would be to take the Dart bus to the Wilmington Amtrak station, and take the train to Philly.

I lived in Philly for 6 months, and I used to take the train back and forth from Wilmington all the time and it was $5.50, and bus fare shouldn't be too much. So Im thinking at the most you're looking at $20 round trip.

just one more question for katy284, how did you get train tickets for $5.50? I've been looking on the amtrack website and the lowest price i can find for wilmington to philadelphia was $24, so it would be $48 there and back. did you use a special discount?

The train I took was a local, so it made stops, that might have had a lot to do with it. The trip ended up taking a bit of time, but it was a lot cheaper.

You'll be looking for the 'Regional Rail'. Here is the fee table that Septa charges, because they are Septa trains that you'll be taking even though its from an Amtrak station:

actually never mind my last question, i figured it out. thanks so much for your help though!! do you know if there is a low cost way to get from philedelphia (or newark) to penn state? ive been looking it up and i have a feeling that the bus that used to go between penn state and philadelphia is closed though..i know there is still greyhound but usually greyhound is kind of expensive....
sorry for all my questions by the way, im just a bit confused about all the different trains and bus systems in the us (ive lived out of the country for a long long time)

Yea sorry Im not sure about that. I had a boyfriend that went to Penn State and its about 3.5 hour straight shot drive from Philly to State College, but I wouldn't know about bus and stuff like that. Good luck with that though :)

I have been reading your CC site as my son plans to apply to UD.... My daughter attends PSU and the usual way that people commute from Philly to State College is via Greyhound. There is a terminal in Philly and King of Prussia, Pa. The cost is about $25 one way. Or there is always the option of going on Facebook or a ride board on campus and getting a ride that way. :-)

thanks for all the info.. i was looking at greyhound but i just hoped to find somewhere a bit cheaper. although i did expect it to be quite a bit more than $25 so thats much better. thank you.

Hello all! I was wondering if you could tell me about the electrical engineering graduate program and it's reputation with employers? Also, how are the professors at UDel?
Thank you.
