I received an invitation this afternoon to attend the UD Distinguished Scholars event. It should be an exciting weekend, and I’m wondering if anyone has any insight about how the event works, particularly about the interview portion (Ex. Are there any unusual questions I should look out for). Thanks!
Also, does anyone know what dress would be appropriate? Basically should I wear a suit?
Daughter did DiScho weekend last year and is now a Eugene DuPont Scholar. I think she brought 2 dressier outfits to the weekend. You don’t have to wear a suit, but a jacket and tie at least would be smart…I’m sure there will be kids who dress more casually (maybe they don’t own a suit or blazer/tie), but that’s what I’d advise my kid to wear.
Hi there everyone!
I am a freshman DiScho who is going to be involved in the weekend this year. Congrats to everyone invited and just a little tidbit that might put some minds at ease: everyone single one of you that attends the weekend (barring aby disciplinary issues) will get a minimum of a scholarship that covers tuition. Definitely still do your best in the interview, discussion, and general interactions with the selection committee but don’t be too stressed out.
I know some of you have obviously been accepted into great schools, but definitely consider the benefits of being a big fish in a big pond. At UD DiSchos get a lot of priority and opportunities that would be difficult to get elsewhere - I personally chose UD over an Ivy League school due to this scholarship and the benefits that come with it. Just come in with an open mind and ready to have fun… and also talk a lot about yourself, your goals, and your interests.
Also remember to bring a nice outfit for a formal dinner and a business casual outfit for interviews!
I’ll be in Redding hosting on Thursday, talking to you guys in the lounge Friday, and also at the dinner Friday. Feel free to ask me any questions here over the next couple days or over the weekend. Can’t wait to meet you all!
I’m attending the competition tomorrow and this really helped to hear. Thank You!
