UD vs Syracuse

Which school is better academically/has been programs all around?

I graduated from Syracuse many years ago and my daughter was just excepted for fall 2008. I was in the nursing program which was top notch back then but not available now. I know nothing about Delaware but have heard nice things. Ithink it depends on what you want to study. Newhouse is top notch, can't do betterany place else. Depends on what you like...weather is cold, campus is beautiful and and the sun does not shine much. The sports are AMAZING!!!! Good luck!

Overall Syracuse would have many academic advantages, but UD is a very decent, undergraduate focused land-grant U with A LOT of financial resources/student, really nice well maintained campus in a decent collge town close to several metro areas. Lots to be said for the place. Some really outstanding programs, notably in sciences (thanks to Gore, Duponts, etc.) These are really very different beasts ... apples and oranges, pun intended. Or maybe hens and roosters?

thank you to both judyrn203 and whistle pig! :o)

I applied and was accepted at both places and a quick campus visit and a meeting with the departments sealed the deal for me. UD's campus was far superior and I found the engineering department to be very welcoming. Undergraduate research is quite abundant, internships are practically handed to you, and I've found that UD really values teaching(more than research).

My s is in the same position as OP - but he is admitted for engineering. We live in PA. Tons of kids from his hs go to U of De. We visited - nice school in many ways. Concerned about how many kids move off campus after freshman year. I've heard there's quite a bit of partying there too.
Also, since it is Delaware's state university, it is quite a bit easier for the DE students to be admitted to the college than out of state students. I wonder what kind of affect that has.It would be helpful to hear others' comments on comparing Syracuse to U of DE.

Whistle Pig - can you be more specific on how you see the 2 schools to be different beasts?
