Udel Business?

How's the business school, specifically for an Accounting major, at Delaware? I'm currently torn between Rutgers Business School (In-State) and Delaware. Any advice would be appreciated...

I can't say from my son's experience since he is an engineering major, but check out this link:

BusinessWeek ranks Lerner 26th among public undergrad B-schools

i would say that neither have a distinct advantage, and if you dont favor one or the other, IS tutition seems nice

we want no phillies fans contaminating delaware....go to rutgers. Only kidding.

Truthfully, it probably wouldn't be much of a difference but is tuition is nicer (as stated by D) and Rutgers is much closer to Manhattan which will give you much more opportunities.

Best of luck in your decision!

I did not mention in my first post that I liked Delaware's campus more than Rutgers. The only thing holding me back would be the tuition...the IS cost of Rutgers is definitely appealing for just about the same academics. At this point, I think I'm leaning toward Delaware...but that changes by the day. Thanks for the replies...

BTW- Go Phils!!

There's plenty of Phillies fans in DE. You'd fit in great!

I, will be attending UD next fall as a Marketing major. UD is ranked very high for business, my father graduated from UD as a business major, and highly praised the program. I recommend UD!

UD definitely has a good business program, however, if you are weighing the costs/benefits, maybe paying less to go to Rutgers would not be an awful idea. In the end, even if UD's business school is slightly better than Rutgers' (and I don't know that it is, just speaking hypothetically), I'm not sure how important the fact that you went to UD over Rutgers would be in the 'real world.'

im from NY and i visited both schools, loved delaware, applied, accepted, maybe even going next year lol, but rutgers on the other hand, hated the campus, hated jersey, didnt bother applying, and the business school in rutgers is just this one little building next to the bball arena, delaware's b school was really no comparison, even the business schools aside, seeing the kids at rutgers made me feel like everyone didnt like the school and didnt even want to talk to eachother, delaware was the complete opposite, had the friendly collegiate environment and all that good stuff

Anyone else? I’m still undecided : /

Philly,

If you’re still undecided at this point, you know you want Delaware.
Go to Delaware if you don’t have to take out loans, else go to Delaware.
As a NY’er, the tuition costs for either school are the same. I like Delaware more.

Good Luck!

…let’s get 'em Mets!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet…

The new President of the University of Delaware is Patrick Harker, former Dean of Wharton. He’s got this nifty “Path to Prominence” which is attempting to revolutionize the school and really put it on the map. Last year he just built the Exelon Trading Center which is a state-of-the-art stock-trading facility. One of his goals is to really make Delaware’s business program near-top in the country. Although I’m a Mechanical Engineering major at UD I’m an Econ minor. I’d say go to UD because within the next few years I think you’ll find that the business program at UD might be a lot more solid than it is right now.

D is currently undecided major (University Studies) and in honors program. Now she thinks she’s leaning towards business, perhaps marketing major. Other choice is Binghamton, which I believe is ranked higher for business, and would be cheaper for us since we are in NY (with Delaware’s scholarship, cost for UD would be about 4K more per year). So Binghamton seems to be a better option, however, she totally prefers UD and wants to go there. Another consideration is that she was admitted to Harpur school in Binghamton, not the School of Management, and supposedly it is difficult to transfer into the School of Management.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone know how UD is for Marketing?

I am a NY’er, although my son goes to JMU in Virginia. I have heard it is nearly impossible to transfer into SOM/Binghamton. The only way is to get in, is as an freshman/admit, or you must have very high GPA to get in as a transfer. If that is what you want to major in, you would probably be wise to go to Delaware/the sure thing admittance.

rrjs: SOM at Binghamton is not known for or strong in marketing; moreso finance and accounting…if you can swing the 4K, UD is definitely a better optionand to ditto others, it is almost impossible to transfer into SOM at Bing, but you can do an adjunct major with Harpur and SOM.
