Did anyone else get an email from uDel saying they would like to consider you for an academic scholarship? Does this mean anything in regards to admission? No idea on this myself, so any info would be great.

Thanks.

Thanks.

My daughter also got this email tonight. I guess it is a likely email.

My daughter got that email as well…Just trying to figure out what “other awards” they would be interested in? Do they want to hear about offers/honors programs from other colleges or just things possibly received in High School since the application went in before Dec. 1?

I got this email too! Cannot wait for decisions to come out!

My daughter also received this email

Add my daughter to the list. I don’t know what she can add to the information that was already listed on her application but we’ll see if we can think of anything.

If you have nothing new to add, should you respond to the e-mail as a courtesy?

Nothing new to add to the app - I am thinking you leave them alone (they have enough work to do now!)

Can those of you who received this email post your “stats”?

My D received this letter also. She does have one new award, so she will be sending a reply. Her term ends this week so she will see about sending her grades (first term have already been sent.) I’m also curious about what others think about listing other college info. She does have acceptances from all her other schools including some merit awards, but Delaware is one of her top choices. If it is appropriate to include any of this, she would.

As for stats- her stats put her in range for honors, but not a shoo-in. She does have some ECs which could match the other types of awards listed in the letter, but which have already been mentioned, not sure if she should mention the link. I’m thinking not it is already in her file and should be obvious.

Here is the letter:

Dear XXX,
The Admissions Committee has completed our preliminary review of your application for admission. XXX, we see you as someone whom we would like to consider for an academic scholarship.

I am writing to let you know that and also to invite you to update us (by e-mail only) if there are any awards or honors that might have come your way after you completed your application for admission. Please include “My Updated Info” in your subject line. While I cannot guarantee you a scholarship at this time, I can guarantee that we are sufficiently impressed with you and your accomplishments that we want to consider you for an award.

In addition to awards based exclusively on academic talent, we have awards for students with outstanding academic records whose achievements would also make them strong candidates for one or more of these special scholarships:

Performing Arts Scholars (for students with talent in the visual & performing arts)

Community Service Scholars (for students with significant community service)

Democracy Scholars (for students interested in public affairs and public policy - especially those enrolling in our Public Policy major)

Leadership Scholars (for students with significant leadership experience)

Cultural Diversity and Global Scholars (for students with strong interests in cultural diversity around the globe)

Environment and Sustainability Scholars (for students who have made an impact on the area of environmental awareness and sustainability)

We eagerly look forward to hearing from you if you have updated information to share with us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Christine Yang Schultz
Senior Associate Director of Admissions and Chair,
University Scholarship Committee

My DS got the e-mail, too, but doesn’t know it. He forgot to check his mail this morning!

I hope this means that they’re accepted but just not telling them yet.

I got one, too! I’m really hoping that it’s hinting at an acceptance.

My son received the email yesterday. I would reply as a courtesy even if you have nothing new to add. Also, I would not consider scholarships/merit awards from other colleges as awards/honors to share with UDel.

I agree with JMCollege about ‘other’ college awards / honors. My daughter is a RPI Medalist and qualified for a scholarship at RIT but that shouldn’t be of any interest to U of DE.

Of course it means that you children will be accepted. They are now considering your kids for scholarship. They are in. Congrats. I only hope my D gets in…

If I didn’t receive such an email, do you think I’m still up for scholarship consideration as well? (fingers crossed)

My daughter received that email as well. I think they just want any new accomplishments/awards since the application but I don’t think we will send anything about other college acceptances etc.

It means that you are in and they are letting you know that you are also going to most likely be getting some merit aid. They are sending the email because they don’t want you to accept a spot at another college before Udel gets their info out to you.

Are you instate?

No I am from NY. I received the letter also. From what I can see online, the people who received them last year were all accepted, receiving different amounts of merit scholarships and many of them were admitted into the honors program.
