UF 2020 Housing Question!!

Hi I am an admitted student at UF and I wanted some advice on housing. I would preferably like a suite and like a residence hall that is close to campus. I’m a science major if that helps! So I was wondering if there is a hall that is a suite and is close to the heart of campus. I’ve been looking all over and I either see one that’s a suite but far from campus or one that is close but a traditional style dorm. I’ll absolutely do traditional if I must, but I was just wondering if I could get the best of both worlds. I found these residential halls:
cypress
infinity (but far)
springs (but frat and athletes, far)
beaty ( but small, far)
sledd
fletcher
some any advice is welcomed! Thanks!!

@teddygrahams911 Cypress Hall fits what you are describing based on its location and it being suite style. It is new and more expensive, but that may work for you.

@NorthFLmomof2 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I’ve been told from current UF students attempting to stay at Cypress that’s it’s nearly full already. I wouldn’t count on getting assigned there even if you request.

Cypress is full for fall/spring contracts. My son wanted a single and was able to choose first because he did not have the option to keep his current room. He is on the waiting list.

Does anyone know if Infinity Hall is also full? I believe it’s one of the new ones too. Which halls are open for Summer B 2016?

Also, if admitted to UF Honors and starting in Summer B, does the student has to change dorms since Hume is not available for Summer?

If the student selected Hume for Fall ( Hume is not being used for summer housing this year) and is admitted to Summer B, then yes, they will house in a summer dorm - move out and then move in again to Hume in the fall.

When can you actually select your preferences for fall? The housing page said May 16 but I see that people are already discussing how they chose their preferences already. A bit confusing…

I think the confusion is that current students are given preference over incoming freshman and have probably already been allowed to choose their dorms. After their selections are done, THEN incoming freshman get to choose. I don’t know that for a fact, but I think that’s the way it works. Fall choices are later in May. Kids starting this summer will choose tomorrow, May 10th.

Am I right in thinking that when you look at your building selection screen, if the Building name and type are listed in blue that you have chosen a dorm and are all set? There was no confirm button that I saw…

london203, that’s how ours appears on the screen. Then under that it says “Action: Start/Change Selection, Cancel Selection”. We did get a green screen after selecting the dorm that said “Selection of building and room type was successful for students’ names”. It also said confirmation would be sent by e-mail. Hope this helps!

@momof2daughters thanks! It was confusing because of opting into a living learning community. Our screen says the same but I don’t know if we got confirmation… I will trust the system!

You’re welcome, london203. If you didn’t get an email confirmation, I’d take a picture of that screen…just in case! Or call UF Housing to confirm. Welcome to the Gator Nation and congrats on becoming a Gator! It really is a great school with great school spirit.

Is Beaty Towers full yet? I’m a little worried because there’s such a limited amount of rooms

I was wondering about Keys Complex…good for a freshman?
Is there a good chance to get in?
Thanks!

Candycornisfun, you can try emailing UF Housing to ask. Only thing I can suggest is to sign on at the very earliest possible time according to your appointment (maybe even 5 min before and just keep refreshing the page!). Just be prepared with one or two alternates in case it’s not available.

Ufmomfriend, I don’t personally know Keys, but if you look on the campus map, it looks like it’s a little bit far from the main campus. Those that are farther east and closer to the dining hall might be more convenient for freshman since they are closer to the dining hall and, I believe, closer to the classrooms you would probably be in. These would be dorms like Reid, Mallory, Yulee, Broward, and those in the Jennings area like Jennings and Beatty. As far as your chances, I guess it all depends on how early your housing appointment time is.

Thanks momof2daughters…really good point.

Hey Guys, do I have to pay for Housing if I am in the AIM Program for Summer B or will they pay it once I come in? I just got my room assigned and billed, but it is due at the end of June.

Also, GO GATORS!! (:
