UF 2021 OFFICIAL DISCUSSION PAGE!!!

@madisonskipper I actually have no idea. I remember browsing through Facebook and a friend said he was posting pics from his AP Photography project, but he doesn’t go to my school. I just used that as an example because it’s the only “non-academic” yet AP class I could think of other than Art History. In fact, I don’t even know if Art History is an AP course either. I just tried coming up with random examples, my bad.

Also, how did you manage to take 23 DE classes? If you had so many how did your overall UF GPA recalculate back to a 4.45?

Thank you! My ACT is 32, I have so many EC’s and I have a job. I’m captain of my track team. I have 4 years of Spanish and I’m in calculus honors this year along with AP English and Bio.I just got my report card for this past semester and my GPA jumped, but they don’t count senior grades! I was offered a $30,000 scholarship to UCF and FSU $9.800. Deferred from UGA and Tulane. Got into Fordham and was offered $80.000 for Baylor. Waiting on Cornell, had a phone interview with the ulumni. I’m just hoping for UF.

@PupuLovesPickles Well the 4.45 had been my junior year weighted GPA (around when I posted that) and the 23 DE classes are counting the classes I took this past semester and summer (another 7 classes) so NOW, after this past semester my recalculated is a 4.58, but not all of my 23 classes were considered core so not all of them brought up my UF GPA (especially the beginner gen ed classes like speech). I started dual enrolling in 10th grade, early admittted senior year, and also did summers so that’s how I have so many.

@PupuLovesPickles Keep in mind that UF is considering course rigor, as well as GPA. That’s why you’ll see folks accepted from the IB/AICE/whatever programs, who are ranked lower (have lower GPA’s), than students who only took a few AP classes. That’s one reason it “appears” that UF loves IB kids. UF loves RIGOR, and if the IB program is the most rigorous program at your school, UF would like to see that you’re in that program.

If the most “rigorous” option at your school is several AP classes, than that’s what UF wants you to take.

I’m currently a junior in high school and was just wondering how things look for me and what I should improve on. I’m providing a copy of my resume because I recently did a class assignment and was curious to see my chances. I realize I am missing some information but this is all that I have at the moment.

btw, I am an in-state student

@Gator88NE Exactly, that’s why I still did 4 APs because of how like like standardization and decided to do junior level classes at my local state college like Chem 2, biochem, calc 2, microbio, etc. and then I took the APs test for calc, chem, bio, and environmental as well to help. But I plan on redoing half of those when/if I get there anyways! I wish my school offered IB or AICE :frowning: but I got rezoned in 10th grade away from the MYP IB program.

@Monkey288195 your resume looks good. I can’t give you chances, but you look like a good fit.

The only advice i can give is on double majoring in ME & AE, since that is my son’s major. Honestly, the only thing you’ll gain by double majoring is a lot of stress and a lot more time and money invested. There’s about an 80-90% overlap between the two anyway depending on the college. AE can be thought of as a specialization of ME. I’m sure you know this already.

A better idea is to take the first year and decide which path you prefer to take and focus on getting into grad school from there. UF also offers a great accelerated five year BS/MS for both.

If you are set on AE you can do either and apply to grad school for AE. A masters will always look better to employers than a double major.

@Monkey288195 another way to think of it…in the same time it would take you to double major in ME & AE, you could already have your MS in AE from UF and be more marketable to employers.

@SushiNinj Thanks for the input. Never thought of it that way.

@Monkey288195 No problem! Just thought I’d chime in because my son is in the same situation and the BS/MS from UF looks like a great option!

@Gator88NE I heard it was mainly that and the fact that IB kids have so much extra stuff associated with their curriculum that an AP student wouldn’t have. I don’t think anyone but the admissions officers and a few people really knows the truth about the whole thing.

@Trisherella I have been there a few times. In my opinion, it does feel really big and spread out, but not necessarily in a bad way. Most classes tend to be in the northeastern/central part of campus but dorms and other campus buildings can be spread pretty far out. Uf definitely has the most scooters I have ever seen but again that is not a bad thing. I like that it’s so big because it’s more places to explore.
