UF 2021 OFFICIAL DISCUSSION PAGE!!!

Sorry, I meant five, not fifteen schools. Lol!

When does U. of F. Usually announce decisions?

@snicks1234 one set date, Feb. 10 at 6PM EST

Thanks. Also, applied in October, not sept.

@sdsupride I have a question to ask, how did you get into all those schools considering your gpa is slightly below the averages for those schools along with your ACT. ( don’t take this the wrong way) did you have an amazing essay?

@Emily1MartinezU They all weight GPA like UF for honors and dual-enrollment. I applied to FSU summer program which I feel helped.

@Emily1MartinezU Usually OOS students have an easier time getting in according to past trends of acceptance on CC. For example, you’ll notice that a FL student who had a 4.2 UF GPA get rejected while a student from PA with a 4.0 could get in, etc.

I’m assuming it’s because these schools like the extra money they’re getting.

I live in PA and my manager had lived in Fl her whole life and her kids went to high school there. She said the public school system is really easy and practically any kid can sign up APs and that the public schools aren’t as good down there. Obviously she is generalizing but still they may take that into account. Sorry, I realize how arrogant this sounds but she told me this only a few day she ago.

@soyunchico That really depends on the school district. Here in Alachua you can only get into the magnets through application and merit, and they’re pretty good. We have a really high acceptance rate to UF

@soyunchico
I’m sure the extra money of taking in OOS state students doesn’t hurt in admissions decisions, but I do not think Florida’s education system is lacking in the slightest. Several sources ( that I have listed below ) would beg to differ. Keep in mind that Florida’s population is nearing twice the size of Pennsylvania’s, so some rural counties may bring down Florida’s ranking, but it has continued to rise. Several high schools just within my county rank within the top 20 US high schools, so it really depends on what county you’re in. Don’t misinterpret though, because I think Pennsylvania’s education is exceptional but overall, Florida is still up there, and definitely not lacking. Why would you even apply to a college that is part of Florida’s public education system if you thought that Florida’s public education system was lacking or “easy”?

Again, I was speaking from secondhand information. Just with so many kids wanting to go to UF, they can only take the best of the best from instate.

@sdsupride Sometimes a 3.17 at one school, is very different from a 3.17 at a much more rigorous school. That’s something that doesn’t come out in the short profiles everyone is posting. :slight_smile:

Some schools are horrible, while others are excellent. For all the reasons others have mention.

In Florida, it is easier to get into AP classes, than some other states. The state of Florida helps to fund the programs; pays for the test, gives the school district additional FTE funding based on AP enrollment, and pays the teachers a bonus based on the number of students passing AP test. This tends to make it easier to access an AP class, even in fairly poor school districts. It’s not a bad thing :slight_smile:

@Gator88NE Yeah my school is very tough. It is a nationally blue ribbon school and we have to take 3 years of a foreign language, and Pre-Calculus Junior year. Every class is honors and a few APs. I do regret not taking any AP though because I was focused more on doubling in math and science courses. I will have 9 credit hours though by the time I graduate.

any lombardi/stamps applicants?

Chance me please
