My son was admitted to UF for the Fall 2007 and received the Notice of Admission letter today. Interesting thing is that the letter did not say which school he was admitted to. Did everyone else receive the same kind of the admission letter? My son's intended major is accounting and I was expecting that the letter says he was admitted to the Fisher School of Accounting or the Warrington College of Business.

your intended major is nonbinding, unlike many schools. you pick your major junior year = ) there's no application FOR business school. you apply to the university. he's fine

Yea don't worry about it. Everyone is admitted to the university as a whole. When your son goes to preview, he will tell his adviser that he wants to major in accounting and the adviser will select it and it will show on ISIS.

A student can pick any major he or she wants. Retention in the program is another story.

I got the letter too today. What'd you guys think of that nice paper? The shiny blue foil text was a nice touch!

Yea...I got mine yesterday as well. I also got a scholarhsip offer for a total of 8,000 dollars over four years. UF is supposed to be my safety school but with this scholarship, 75 % Bright Futures, Florida Prepaid and all the this other stuff..its looking as if it will be really cheap to attend compared to the other institutions I applied to.

Congrats NOTTHESTEREOTYPE!! What was your scholarship for? UF is not only a bargain for Floridians but also an outstanding education. I went to PSU when they were National champs and the recognition was unbelievable when it came time for interviewing for jobs all over the country. Again, CONGRATS.

Yeah grats for the scholarship.

Although i wasn't offered a scholarship, I did get 100% bright futures. BF + fin aid = free!

wait...you only qualify for 75% Bright Futures and UF offered you an $8000 scholarship?..congrats

yeah right lol i was like damn, i got jipped. oh well though i cant ask for more

they offered you a scholarship with your admissions letter? what was it for? i thought they didnt do that.

he might be first generation/low income or an athlete

you know, sometimes I regret we never moved to California (UCs would be my state schools), but considering UF is a top school and Florida public universities have the 2nd lowest tuition rates in the country + bright futures scholarships, UF really is a steal

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I was at a state conference for BPA in Orlando and I did not bring my laptop. The scholarship I received is given to increase African American enrollment. I just found info about it on their site today. It's called the UF Presidential Scholarship. This really helps me out because I am an only child and I do not expect to recieve much aid from the school. I didnt think of it as a very big deal until I was looking At FSU's scholarship page and the amount I recieved is equivalent to one of their top scholarships. Now, I just have to study for the ACT to get the 100% Bright Futures. I am so annoyed with testing... I have everything but the standardized testing requirement.

I'm all for the President Scholarship but I think it's unfair that the make it seem that if you're an AA and first generation then it's automatically yours. Definitely not the case or my friend would have gotten it, but you have to financial requirements.

Ufstudent,
Im not a first generation college student. As far as the finanical requirements go, I recently completed my FAFSA and so they didnt have any financial information when they gave me the scholarship.

nice, asuming he got it because he was a minority. And that his a first generation, yeah my parents graduated from havard and I'm African American. Do you seriously label people like that when you see them? A token? who is the first person to go college? LOL! wowww The world is such a bright place. I'm tellin ya.

No...considering im a minority myself. I asked my friend about this and He said that it has to be that. He said it could, perhaps, also be something called, "opportunity scholarship" (correct me if I'm wrong). I tried looking it up for myself since what I wrote is apparently wrong, but I didnt find it on the schools website.

BBecker, I didnt say he got in because he was a minority, I was referencing to the scholarship. No need for the smart comments.

well the question is...did anyone who is not black, not a high ranked athlete, or not NMSF receive any scholarship offerings from UF?

Scroll to Bottom of Page:

thanks for the link, I saw that when I was searching earlier but it didnt give anything in specific. I want to make sure that you know that this is nothing towards you at all (given the fact that I don't even know you and of what BBecker said earlier.)
