UF Admission Letter

Chamilitary,

From my experience, I don't know of anyone that wasn't NMSF, minority, or athlete that got a scholarship.

Just want to clarify, opportunity scholarship (newly created last year) is different than presidential scholarship (which is being phased out).

Opportunity scholarship:aimed at students who have economic need and are the first in their families to attend a four-year college or university. Goal is to hopefully would bring more minority (black, spanish, american-indian, etc) and underprivileged students (EFC really, really low) to the state's flagship institution.

Presidential: they are phasing this out in favor of the former. It originally awarded $2,000 per/year (120 credits max) to high achieving minorities (black, spanish, american-indian, etc).

Hey ASMAJ,
Do you know more information about the Presidential Scholarship? Is 2,000 per year the highest it goes? Is it truly awarded to the high achieving minorities or is it just given to minorities for being accepted? I would ask other people at my school that got into UF, but I am the only minority with the exception of my Peruvian friend. Also, are you sure that this scholarship is for all minorities not just African Americans?

From my understanding, its 2000 max. I haven't met anyone that had more. High achieving minorities only. My high school is a magnet school that has a lot of high achieving minorities (usually 45 people from our school go to UF a year). People that where accepted to fall got presidential sch. but people I knew that were accepted to the AIM program did not get a scholarship. It could have changed since 2004 to only accept blacks students, but when I got it, there were spanish students too.

Hey ASMAJ,

Thx.

so does UF give any money to national achievement or hispanic finalists?

Yep, but separate scholarships with more money like national merit.

I can im you on friday. I am studying for two exam that will take up all my time.

hmm this is helpful

lol I read this and all pretty funny to me because I got to wonder how they got that scholarship it probably is the opportunity scholarship just because I am a minority hispanic high psat and sat not high enough for national merit high un-weighted GPA and weighted GPA and I didn't get a dime of a scholarship. Last year a lot of Hispanic students came in with numbers lower than what I had and got the opportunity scholarship which is a lot of money. But I think opportunity is 4000 a year you don't have to apply for it and you find out about it when they send you your financial aid package. I would have to say in my opinion nobody should get mad because the person is probably lying.

The UF Presidential scholarship is not for Hispanics. I know the Presidential is real becuase I got it. I have no clue what the opputunity scholarship is.

Opportunity is new students that came in last year were first to get it
