OK, so sort of a dopey question – if you’re admitted to U of F, and you’re hoping (however faintly) for an OOS merit scholarship, would you not want to accept admission until you receive word of the OOS scholarship, or would you just accept admission and hope that an OOS scholarship comes your way?
In other words, does U of F use the prospect of an OOS merit scholarship to entice someone who’s been accepted to accept admission to U of F? If so, then would you – again, assuming you’ve been accepted to U of F – hold out on accepting admission until early/mid-March (i.e., once the scholarships have been given out)?
Would be interested in hearing folks’ thoughts on this. D is nervously awaiting February 8th! [-O<
I’m pretty sure you’ll know your aid package within 2 to 3 weeks or so after admission. The OOS scholarships (Alumni/Sunshine/Gator Nation) are award by admissions, so it’s award with your acceptance, or soon after.
It’s perfectly fine to delay acceptance until May 1st (with a $200 non-refundable tuition deposit.)
However, before May 1st (and after the financial aid information is available) you will have to pay the Housing advance rent payment ($225 for Summer B 2018 – $225 for Fall/Spring 2018/2019), which is required to complete the Housing Contract. You’ll need to do that to live on campus. If you make the advance rent payment, but end up not enrolling, I think only $100 is refundable. I want to say mid to late March, but I’m not sure. This is the payment most folks complain about, since it has to be made before the May 1st deadline.
Good Luck!
