General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): I’ve heard a lot of people say that UF is a major “did you meet the requirements yes or no” type of school, so I would make sure you meet their average in terms of GPA/SAT scores (4.31/1918 were the 2016 numbers if you’re curious)

Props to having such a high GPA even though you’re in IB

@theycallmebrain Well with your current stats I know you qualify for full bright futures so your set on tuition. Also I feel you may likely get some type of grant and/or merit aid due to your high numbers and financial need. This info from what I heard doesnt come out till mid-March. Hopefully all goes well for you :).

Thanks! In all reality, my stats aren’t reflective of what it takes to get into UF. My friend got in with a 3.7 and a 1980 SAT. If you have time, maximize your SAT superscore! UF isn’t majorly concerned with ECs in my opinion (I only listed 4 and my friend listed 2). Just make sure the ones you do list are well explained and thorough. Also, make sure your essay is solid. UF always releases one super easy prompt, and I would suggest to avoid it as it can be way too easy to sound superficial with that prompt. In my year it was, if you could choose to play the hero or villain in a movie, which would you choose and why.

I’m just worried I wont get in because I have a low unweighted gpa. My weighted GPA is good because being an IB student, all my classes are weighted. I have good extracurriculars too

You should be okay  don’t stress yourself out way too much! You’re in the IB program, meaning you’re already one of the more competitive students out there. Just have faith in your abilities and do your best.

Hopefully you are right! But thanks for the advice, good luck at wherever you choose to go

Hi! I was accepted! My stats are definitely not as high as the people above, but this just goes to prove that they accept people with lower SAT scores as well. I have a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.9 weighted. I’m not in the IB program. I’ve taken 7 AP classes: AP Language , AP Lit, AP Environentnal, AP Physics 1, APUSH, AP Economics, and AP French. My SAT was definitely on the low side. I got a 1640 combined. My EC’s are piano and voice, yearbook, NHS, Secretary of French honor society, and VP of math honor society. I wrote a pretty good essay. I think that was one of my strong points of my application. I hope this help. Many people from my school got in this year. I was quite surprised when I was accepted because so many people were telling me how competitive it was and how last year only a few people were accepted from my school. I hope you get in next year!!

your GPA is amazing!

I got accepted!
UW GPA: 3.3
W GPA: not sure (my school doesn’t calculate it)
SAT: 2100
ACT: didn’t take it
IB: got a IB diploma a year early & scored mostly 5’s and 6’s
AP: took 1 AP exam in 9th grade and got a 4 (AP world history). I’ve taken AP Calc AB, Calc BC, Psychology and Physics

Essays were really good

Extracurricular were strong:

  • varsity gymnastics all 4 years
  • 2nd place @ rock climbing nationals
  • made US team in rock climbing 2 years in a row
  • club gymnastics all 4 years
  • also did XC, tennis, pole vault and diving
  • I organized a bunch of fundraisers for my school sports teams
