Hi I am from CT and I am going to apply to UF for spring 2007. I have been reading a lot online that Fl doesn't like out of staters and you have less chances of getting in from being out of state. But if anyone could tell me my chances of getting in it would be very helpful. I just graduated and i was accepted to CCSU in the fall, i wish i would of applied to florida last year but oh well. Anyways I have a 3.8 GPA and got 1500/2400 on the SAT which I know is pretty low but I hope my other stuff will out weigh that. I have a ton of extra-circ. stuff volunteer work at hospitals and schools, worked at TJ.MAXX, Dunkin Donuts and have been a summer camp counselor for the state sponsored recreation program every summer for 4 years. I also have great recomendations and I think I did really well on the application essays as I have always excelled at English. I also took an English class (Eng. Comp. 101 up here in CT and my final grade is 4.0
Do I have a chance a UF???

Your grades are fine for UF but your SAT score may keep you out. I do not know any non minority who got into UF with less than a 1200 (M and CR) SAT. What is your CR and M score? UF loves extracurricular stuff too. Apply early, it makes a difference.

CR was 480, Math 500

I am sorry but you have very little chance (if any) with those scores. Study hard and retake the test in October (it will still count toward early decision and regular decision 1). You have a shot if you can raise each section to at least 600 (but only a shot). MOST of the kids at UF come in with SAT scores of at least 1200 (Math and Reading) unless they are star basketball/football players or URM's. For UF to be a match for you...you should have at least a 1250 (CR and M).

i dont mean to be tough but your SATs have to be much better than that because you are out of state. the school is only allowed to accept a certain percentage of out of state people because of state laws or something like that.

Yeah, your SAT scores need to be much better than that. 500-range is startling; 400s are just shocking. I suggest that you take the entire summer to study very hard. 600-650 in each section at least.

Im telling you right now thats not true about SAT's. From someone who just finished their first year there...I have friends who got into UF with 1060's and 1100's... but they had veeeeeeeery high GPA's compared to yours (4.5-4.6). I think they pay more attention to your extra-circ. activities and GPA... but then again it might be different because you are out of state... GOOD LUCK :)

anac - where in Florida are these people (with low SAT's) from? Are they URM's? I would love to know since I haven't heard of ANY non URM from the A rated Broward County schools that got in with those SAT's. I would not doubt though that UF may have different criteria for some under represented zip codes or high schools. It would make sense that they would excuse a deficit (SAT score) in one area for a stellar performance in another (GPA).

You definitely need to raise those SAT scores. Get a practice course or take a class over the summer and really focus for the October SAT's, I haven't heard of anyone getting into UF with those scores and I live in FL.

Don't get discouraged though, if anything that is the only thing keeping you out and it can be easily changed if you put your mind to it!
