Chances? Thanks guys. I'll chance you back if you want.

You seem like a pretty good match, I wouldn’t imagine you’d have issues getting in (especially if you can get that ACT up), but I’m by no means an expert or even remotely close to one.

Where’d you get the info to calculate your UF GPA?

I called admissions and got their scale. It’s .5 for honors/Pre-IB and 1.0 for AP/IB. I asked them about what classes they would take out too such as throw away electives and stuff like that, so it’s pretty accurate.

I think you’re a strong applicant. Great EC’s, and strong academics, come next February I think we’ll be welcoming you to the GatorNation.

no reason why you wouldn’t get in.

I’m also a legacy (dad). Will this help significantly or is it true what they say that it doesn’t matter anymore?

IMO Gatorguy, legacy status just means that your father will know what your grades need to be at to get in. There’s a nice article about it with Harvard online somewhere. It basically says that it’s not going to help if you have a 2.0 gpa, but if you’re on the border it should help you get in. But most people won’t need it to get in.

With your stats you should be fine.

Thanks a lot! I just have to get my ACT up a little bit I guess

Actually a 29 places you in the mid 50% of their average applicant, so you should be accepted!

Yeah, but I think I need to be above 50%. I’ve heard UF is sometimes unpredictable.

I toured yesterday and the assistant chief of admissions gave us some tips and info about applying and the essay and such, and I kinda got the vibe that they could be unpredictable… but she also made it clear that academics is only HALF of it. A 2350 SAT, 4.7 UF GPA (or some ridiculously-high UF GPA) applicant was rejected last year. Why? Because he didn’t take the non-academic parts of the application (e.g. the essay) seriously and thought he was guaranteed admission with his great stats.

The point here being that just good academics or just good EC’s won’t get you in. You truly need to be well-rounded. So don’t get too wound up with where you stand in the statistics of admitted students, because that’s only half of what counts. :)

Yeah I have a stellar essay idea. My EC’s make me a pretty well rounded applicant imo.

I think I should post a thread about the info the admissions lady gave us… it was really insightful.

@seeking uni, yes please do post info from admissions

I think you’re chances are really good, but I’m not an expert either. I’m a sophomore at UF and I was also an IB graduate like you will be. I think UF really looks at strength of schedule in high school and leadership positions the most and you definitely have those. Write a good essay and you should be fine! Go gators!
