what are my chances of getting into UF with a 1770 on my first SAT
a GPA of 3.9 (not weighted) and im in the top 15% of my class
im in national honor society and have participated in at 3 or 4 volunteering clubs each year of high school
i have also maintained a steady job for 3 years

im not sure if all this information is helpful but if you have an idea if i have a chance please let me know also i am and have been in all pre-ap or AP classes all 4 years as well as a DUAL credit class

thanks in advance

Question:

You are not in the top 10% of your class, with a 3.9 unweighted gpa?

Anyway, top 10% would be better. Plus, your SATs are a bit low as well.

And your ECs, while OK, are not like some of the super-human ECs I see on CC that some kids have.

Plus, UF is getting very hard to get into.

So, my honest opinion is that FSU might be more likely. No harm in applying to UF, of course. They still take 1 out of 3, so you do have a chance. Please be assurred that I am not trying to be negative, but my son has better stats, and I have some doubts that he will get in. I have seen posts on CC where kids claim they have been rejected at UF, but have gotten into University of Virginia, and even MIT.

I personally think you’re good. UF isn’t really all that hard to get into. We’d need to know exactly your AP’s to evaluate totally, though. An AP in Statistics is all great, but not as good as one in a core class. Similarly, your extra curricular activities, as you’ve described them, seem lacking; stress your academic extra curricular activities as much as you would your service activities.

Your SAT scores are obviously your weak point. Reallistically, because of those scores, UF might be a stretch to you.

To floridadad, I sometimes feel like uf might reject someone just so that they can say that they look at something other than the gpa. The main reason why UF is becoming so popular is for their football program which, you might know, has recently flopped, with bad prospects. The admission rate at UF going down has more to do with the amount of sports people applying who really shouldn’t be than the difficulty of getting in changing.

floridadad55- thank you i appreciate your opinion, i will be taking my ACT and two more sat before my final admission should be reviewed so i intend to raise my scores quite a bit since the first time i went in and took it “cold”

my aps have been
ap english 2 and 3 and im in dual english so i will be completing my basic college needs by the time i finish my senior year
i took french and spanish aps and even made a 5 on my ap test so i hope that helps my chances
ap in all sciences even extras like environmental science and geology meteorology and oceanography as well as math
i will also be graduating distinguished
like i said i participate in a variety of volunteer organizations so each year i have about 100 to 150 hours of community service for my extracurricular in addition to tutoring and work

i dont know if this helped clarify my chances or not but thank you for your responses

Like we said, just get that SAT score up. One of the books I like studying was “Hack the SAT” by Eliot Schrefer. I recommend that you check it out at the library… it’s a quick read. Also, the most important reference guide you can use is the official college board one. Any other guides are terrible.

Otherwise, you’re home free. Go Gators(I’m applying too.)
