Obviously very worried like everyone for this Friday. Especially because my SAT is 1270 and 26 ACT. I have a 4.6 UF GPA. Do you think my test scores will take me out of the running? Any thoughts are appreciated!
@Elizabeth11 I think you’ve got a reasonable chance, assuming you’re in-state.
S has applied as a Virginia resident (GPA 4.3W, 3.74 UW, and SAT 1430), but frankly, U of F’s decision could go either way. Someone mentioned that only 9% of U of F students are out of state, and most are grad students, so OOS chances for most applicants may be slim. He’s already got a great choice with UCF, though (accepted with scholarship and into BHC), so regardless, he’s likely headed to Florida for college. He’s very excited!
Acceptance rates for in-state and OOS appear to be pretty similar so I would not worry about being OOS. The acceptance to UCF BHC should be a good indicator of a competitive applicant to UF.
If you are going to have one weak area, test scores are it. Your SAT is not that bad, you have a very good GPA and if you have good course rigor to go with it you should be competitive.
Best of luck to you all!
@CaucAsianDad Thanks for the tip. Is your DS also applying to U of F?
It’s a bit ironic that S took a pass applying to the University of Virginia and instead applied to U of F (though he has applied to Virginia Tech). He thought UVa’s engineering school was too small (2500 students) and wanted something much bigger, which U of F, UCF, Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech all provide. S applied to NC State but didn’t get in the engineering school (was accepted to general university only), so I guess anything can happen. He’s been accepted to Texas A&M, GMU (safety), and will hear from Va. Tech by the end of the month or mid-March.
U of F – only two more days! (Yes, I’m getting caught up in the hype. I’m coming home from work a bit earlier just to be with S when he finds out.)
Yes. it looks like UF will be her top choice, but she is trying not to think too much about UF this week. She was accepted to FSU Honors on Monday so that will be her best option if UF does not come though. She decided to drop UCF off the list when she got the FSU acceptance. FSU (and UF) have much stronger Psychology programs. UCF is also a little too close to home.
When did she put in her application for FSU honors, CaucAsian Dad? We’re waiting on a decision there. If she goes to FSU does your D want the honors dorm?
This UF wait is kind of maddening, lol!
@Trisherella
She applied on Jan 24. She did not get official notice yet, but she found it on view details page of her Honors App on Monday. She really wants the honors dorm.
She will try for Honors at UF also, that will be a stretch, and she would live in Hume if she gets in. She feels she will fit in better there than in the more “social” dorms.
I didn’t apply to Fsu honors yet but my friend who applied just got his rejection email.
Lol people can’t even get into UF
