UF: CISE incident

so how do you think the CISE incident will affect UF's comp sci ranking? According to US News, it's sitting at a pretty reputable 39. Do you think it will change drastically this year?

I ask because I'm an incoming comp sci major who recently got back from preview, and I spoke to the head of engineering, who told me that the incident will not alter the comp sci's strength and ranking in any way..

I'm anxious to hear what you all think!

once you start thinking about what to do after graduation, you’ll quickly realize that rankings in computer science are meaningless. the good employers don’t care about your GPA, much less what your department’s ranking is.

what do you think you want to do with comp sci?

Must have missed something. Are you referring to the Forbes article, which I heard was not accurate?

Its just that advanced research and computer science PhDs will be consolidated within the College of Engineering. You will still be able to get lower-level computer science degrees within CLAS if you so desire.

Oh, okay. Some people were saying that they didn’t offer a computer science degree anymore… I thought that I would have to start looking at transferring out of UF (so glad I don’t because I love this school).

My goal is to eventually become a computer scientist. I’m aiming for grad school at CMU.

The press was very misleading. It made little sense to have two computer science programs in different colleges when you are talking about advanced research where the distinctions are meaningless.

I agree. It was misleading
