Thank you!! @Anxiousmom12
which school as the better value: U Miami or UF?
@mileshaley5 That’s hard to say. If you’re an in-state student, then UF is far less expensive, which makes it a far better “value”. If you’re OOS, it comes down to how much aid are you getting between the two schools (and possibly your major).
I got into UMiami for the fall.
What are my chances for UF?
3.72 uw, 1450 SAT, great unique EC’s
My apologies if this has been asked before. If you applied for Fall admission, will they possibly offer Summer admission based on your qualifications? I know they said they evaluate the class if 2022 as one body, I just was not sure if Fall admission was more competitive than Summer.
at the info session at UF I went to on monday they said this year they had a record amount of applicants (40,000)
and they also said they don’t care if you put fall or summer on your application… however I feel like fall is way more competitive
The reason I ask about fall/summer is that I’ve spent a lot of time second-guessing selecting fall. I was hoping that if they couldn’t offer fall (and it was more competitive), summer might be offered instead. Of well, guess we’ll know soon enough
Wow, went through this page and everyone’s stats are fantastic. Good luck everyone! You all have worked so hard.
@AimingTop50 Two years ago, they released between 5:20 - 5:30.
In regard to the 40,000 I wonder if that includes transfers? Last years freshman applicants total was 34,553. A jump to 40,000 would be almost a 16% increase …I think past increases have been high single digits. In any event I am sure apps are up this year again.
NVM
@Collegemom123 No, over 40,000 is only freshman. It was a heck of an increase this year.
@Melissa96 Correct. I read the same, and it has increase also at other colleges, and Colleges within the universities are also becoming more competitive to get into.
@Trixiet I believe they do automatically consider you for summer if you don’t fit in with their stats for fall. My stats are kind of low, but I applied for fall anyway because then they could accept me for either fall or summer (which is what I’m expecting, but, there’s also a 50/50 chance that they will reject me altogether). I also applied to Florida State for the fall term and they accepted me for summer. Hope this helps
That is an almost unprecedented one year increase in freshman applications…(freshman apps were 30,800 in 2015…just 3 years ago). I wonder if there was a sizable increase in OOS applicants …or possibly Full Bright Futures tuition, with the FL legislature considering making it permanent, is causing many more in state students to apply?
3 years ago UF had a separate application that had to be completed. Last year became Coalition only. I’d imagine that has quite a bit to do with the increase.
Collegemom123- I do think the BF has a lot to do with it–hard to turn down free tuition. However, my fourth child is in the application process this year and I am really surprised at the sheer number of applications all her friends are submitting. When my older kids applied, they sent out about 5 applications each. My daughter sent out seven this year, and I thought that was too many (but she wants to go private if possible, so looking for some merit aid). However, her friends are all (all!) sending out ten or more, and several more than 20, applications. So, I think some of the rise is because of the ease of using the coalition app and the common app. Every school that we have heard back from so far has indicated a record year for applicants (GT, Tulane, FSU, Mercer, and UM), and I don’t think the population grew 20 percent in the last year or so!
@Collegemom123 When the football teams and sports teams are doing well - you have a RISE in applications. And with common app - all you need to do is click click click - so kids are applying to more than they would have in the past.
I agree with a lot of the sentiments expressed. It has been documented that students are filing more and more applications. UF accepted the Coalition app last year and applications increased 8%.from 2016 to 2017…based on 40,000 freshman apps this year that is a 16% increase …so double percentage increase with the same application …something else is driving that dramatic increase …at this point I guess we can only speculate …
