I'm currently applying to the university of Florida. I was wondering if the college you apply to can have an impact on the chances you get in? I want to apply to the college of arts for a major in music. They do not require a profilo or audition but my resume is mostly strong because of my grades so should I just apply to the college of arts and science to guarantee my acceptance?

Nothing is a guarantee! It’s good that you have great grades and I can assume you probably have good standardized test scores and high class ranking. Those will certainly help and hopefully your schedule in your senior year will be rigorous because they will look at that. To clarify, your choice is between the college of arts and the college of arts and science? Does music fall under the college of arts? I would assume that college would be easier to get into with strong grades but that’s just my opinion. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice! Yea the school of music requires an audition so I think I’ll just apply as undecided

You’re welcome! I can be pretty blunt so please excuse that. I live in Florida and UF is becoming harder to get into every year. I know of kids who are in the IB program at a high school ranked in the top ten in the nation and they have been rejected. That’s why I said there is no guarantee. I went to Florida State and they have a phenomenal music program- just sayin’ lol! Also, do you not feel strong about your musical abilities and that’s why you want to avoid an audition? Just curious.

It’s totally fine! I have heard a lot of good students getting rejected, my sister got in so I hope I will too! And I’m applying to fsu you too I’ve taken voice and piano lessons for 5 years, but I feel my grades, test scores, etc are stronger to get me in. Also I want to go more into the business aspect of the music industry

:) Glad you’re also applying to FSU. It’s such a beautiful campus too! Good luck, stay focused, and keep practicing!
