What dorms are known to be larger and have the most storage space?
We’ve noticed that the ones with closet/wardrobe/dresser combinations (ex: Broward, Simpson, and Beatty, etc) instead of closets have extremely small storage space. To live in there for a school year, that doesn’t seem possible even if you took clothing just for a season.
Anyone? haha
Lofting the bed provides a lot of storage space. You’d be amazed by how much stuff fits under the bed! It would be a great place to store out-of-season clothes or extra sheets, etc. If you haven’t already looked around the housing site, check out the photos they have of the dorm rooms. It might give you a better idea of the storage in each type of dorm room. The site also indicates which dorms can have lofted beds. Good luck with the decision!
The UF dorms have small closets for sure, I remember only having enough space for some of my clothes and I would come back at thanksgiving and leave summer clothes and take my winter clothes with me. Then when it got to spring time (around spring break) I would bring back my winter clothes. Hope this helps!
Hume has walk in closets!
Trusler(I assume the others in the Graham area) has a decent size closet, with a large storage area above. Also, as others have said, raising the bed opens up alot of additional area for bins.
@Mobie101 By lofting do you mean high enough to put a desk under the bed? Thanks everyone for the info.
@NorthFLmomof2, I actually was thinking about the option to loft the bed high enough for storage, but low enough so the student can still get in without a ladder. I don’t think the beds in my son’s dorm can be lofted high enough to put the desk underneath, but they are high enough for a mini-fridge and several storage bins. It’s a lot more space than I would have imagined. I’m almost afraid of what we will find under there when he moves out for the summer! :))
Last year, my daughter and her roommate lofted their beds in Jennings. They placed small couches, comfy chairs, TVs, and drawers filled with supplies under the beds. She did use a small step stool to help climb into the bed. Jennings also has a lot of storage on a large self that’s over the closets (which you can’t see in the floor plans). They stored luggage, etc. in that area.
