UF Dorms questions?

So I was accepted into UF and have a few questions about the dorms. I have already paid the $25 fee and am waiting to sign up. First, is it worth it to live on campus as a freshman, or should I just stay off campus? My brother went to UF a few years ago and absolutely hated the dorms, so I’m a little unsure of whether I should stay in a dorm or not. Second, which dorms have community-style bathrooms, and which ones have bathrooms in the rooms? Finally, are community-style bathrooms as disgusting as everyone says they are?

Most of your questions are answered on the UF housing site. Keep clicking through for particulars on any dorm.
Repost this to the UF portion of CC.

I personally think on campus dorms are better for freshman. They are social, close to classes (so easier to walk).
The site has pictures of dorm set-up.
There may be more but Hume (honor’s dorm) has suite-style (2 rooms, 4 people with connecting bathroom).
Beatty towers has apartment style living but better for upper classmen–a lot of freshmen really dislike it because it is very hard to meet people. And that’s usually the goal for most freshmen.
Some of the newer dorms/apartments Lakeside, Cypress are very nice but too far from main campus. You’ll find athletes and married housing here. So again, not great for meeting people.

Are community-style bathrooms okay? They never bothered me in the least. They were kept clean on a daily basis (something that doesn’t happen with your own apartment–Now THAT can get disgusting!). Yeah, shlepping down the hall with your stuff can get old but whatever. You figure it out pretty fast to make it easy…
One of my favorite memories was singing in the shower (I can’t help myself) and being joined by everyone else in the nearby showers. I still laugh–we had great harmonies going on too!
