What really upsets me about the UF admissions process is that they do EVERYTHING electronically. I can't update my extracurriculars if I made a mistake. I can't send in letters of recommendation. I can't even send in SAT subject test scores.

I made a mistake on my application, and didn't include my community service hours... i included my community service, but i assumed uf would just look on my transcript and see the hours, but they said that they dont.

I really want to get into UF... it's such a great college... but so many people from my school are applying there, and I feel like UF will say "Oh, look, he has a 4.1 GPA, a 30 ACT, decent extracurriculars, but there are so many other candidates from his school, so let's only take the top 5 best ones."

if you need to make changes to your application and cant do it online, call admissions and talk to them.

also, they will do what you think they will about picking the best 5. they do take class size into account though; rather than taking the top 5 from every school, they make a point of looking at whose in the top 10% and take most of those.

I didn’t mention my total hours on my application last year, it is on your transcript. I told them my activities and about how much time I invested in them per week. Just like they tell you to do on their website. Also do not worry about the top 5 thing. If you can write a kick ass essay, you could get more preference than them!

last year approx. 60 kids from my school got in & went to UF, possibly more got into the school. It’s not just the top 5.

Sable and Vpolineni are right. One of my close friends got in on a 3.0. There’s no way you could possibly spin that to put him top 5, top 5% or even top 25%.

Kid had unbelievable potential though, and he’s been proving it every day for the last three years.

It’s rare, sure, but it does happen.

I called the admissions office at UF regarding not disclosing amount of community service hours in the application since it was on the transcripts. I was told they do look at community service hours on the transcripts. This makes sense to me since otherwise universities would have no way of confirming.

thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I really appreciate it.
