UF FinAid

Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of what I would get with a 0 EFC?

I currently get the max pell grant and the state grant for $2,000.

I'm just not sure if UF awards more aid from a donor/alumni fund for students with exceptional need based aid.

How’d you get the state grant?

To be honest with you I’m not quite sure. I came home one night and had a voice mail on my answering machine at 4:55 (The office closes at 5) saying I need to call them back asap. I thought “Great, there must be a huge problem with my fafsa or something”. I called them the next morning and they told me I was the last person at the school to get the grant and that they had run out of money.

Was it the ACG (Academic Competitiveness Grant) you’ve received?

And to answer your question, UF awards very little aid. You probably will not get anythhing from them. The only scholarship that comes to mind is the Florida Opportunity Scholarship. I don’t know anyone who received it though, and judging from other threads on the UF forum, they already notified their scholarship recipients.

You are talking about the Florida Student Assistance Grant, which basically is when Florida matches what you receive from the national government in Pell Grant. It’s different from the Pell Grant because each school is awarded a certain amount of money, and divides it up for all the people who applied “on time” for FAFSA, and these people must also receive Pell Grants, and these students must already be admitted. Basically, you are not guaranteed it like you would be guaranteed a Pell Grant. It all comes down to whether UF has enough money left over for you or not. For example, I know I will not be getting it because I am a transfer student who has not heard back yet from UF, so I am not going to be considered “on time” for FAFSA even though I have already submitted my FAFSA before the March 1st deadline. I called the Financial Aid office to ask, because I receive this grant at my current institution, and they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it. It sucks…

The FAFSA deadline is March 1st…? I thought it was the 15th.

@ufhopeful

while its likely to be the case that theres nothing you can do, i’ve had different outcomes when trying to adjust my awards depending on who i talk to. one person will say “oh, we’re out of money, nothing can be done” and i’ll ask another person the same exact question and they’ll put it through no problem. once you hear back from uf, i’d call the general number again, and also email your designated adviser separately.

i’m not an expert, especially with grants, but i’ve learned by now that just because someone in the administration doesn’t think they can do something doesn’t mean it cant be done.

i have 0 EFC and I get everything that isn’t covered by BF covered by Pell grantsand such.

Well I hope I can get good aid too. My efc is also 0, but thank goodness all my tuition is covered.

iSenior, you are right, it is March 15th, sorry.

aforautumn, that is very interesting - how do you do that, just keep on asking people? So I should ask my assigned advisor and the general office? And would you recommend going in in person (I live in Gainesville and can get to the financial aid office easily)? I don’t know how things like that work at UF, but at Santa Fe, you have to go in the office if you want to get anything accomplished with your financial aid.

When does UF start awarding financial aid for fall?

APril 1st. That’s when Summer Aid/Fall aid.

I was looking at past threads on here (2010) and some people started getting emails about their financial aid today (March 16th). I’m waiting impatiently.

I called FinAid for a timetable of when FinAid would be sent out and they said beginning April 1st.

People who were notified in March were Scholarship recipients. :-)

Here is the thread I was talking about. Looks like everyone was told 4/1 but people a year ago were discussing that Fin Aid was up - scholarhips or no scholarships. I guess it makes no difference really - just would really like to know.

I saw last year’s thread as well. I hope we receive our financial aid award letters.

well i got awarded the Florida Opportunity Scholarship, and several friends (different URM) were awarded the presidential scholarship! Also i cant see my award yet because uf hasnt updated their financial aid :(

They emailed you? Sigh… I wasn’t awarded anything and I’m a URM too :/…

I was hoping I received the Florida Opportunity Scholarship. I met all of the requirements. Sigh… @niqueb1 Congratulations

big sigh dang i read people receiving aid and i havent even thought about that or how I’m going to pay for school.
