UF FinAid

Have any of you FOS people recieved summer 2011 aid? It says to go into ISIS and request it after submitting FAFSA, but there is no request summer aid button there, So i figured it may be an automatic thing.

I havent received FOS but I had to click on the thing for summer approval…

so anyone else hear back from financial aid?

@Umcane3435 Thanks, today my summer link finally posted

My financial aid info still hasn’t been “finalized”…FAFSA recieved by UF on 2/19/2011

@fischer have you gotten your financial aid yet? I still havent.

Has anyone else not received their financial aid…?

I still haven’t gotten mine either. Signed my agreement on 2/17 and UF got my FAFSA on 2/22.

@eagleskyline have you emailed and/or called them? Weren’t we suppose to know about aid by April 1st? or last week at the latest. That is what I have heard and I am getting annoyed… am I the only one frustrated?

They’re definitely going in order of when they got our FAFSAs, if I don’t get mine by the end of the week, I’ll email them next week.
What concerns me more is the lack of aid. My friend, who’s mom only makes 15k a year, got bright futures (the second-highest level) and the highest Pell Grant only got a 1k grant from UF and the rest are loans. What sense does that make?

They are going in order by when we filed our fafsa? How is that even possible? I turned mine in on January 6th and they got it by January 20th. Surely that would have been at the front of the line…?

They only got 1k from UF? That sucks! What about any scholarships or FOS or anything like that? Hopefully they have outside scholarships. As of now, I have 5,500 racked up in outside scholarships. This plus the highest bright futures and highest pell grant will hopefully cover all of my costs for the first year. Then Im just screwed for the second year since the outside scholarships are only for freshman year :(

That’s what I’ve assumed judging from when my friends got their info, yours is early so DEFINITELY email them ASAP and ask why you haven’t been evaluated.
Yeah, he hasn’t been FOS yet, which doesn’t make sense given his low income. I’d be in the same boat as him if I didn’t get FOS, but I have the highest bright futures.

Being low-income doesn’t entitle you to FOS, you have to meet more requirements, like being a minority.

@Ir2010 In contrast to popular belief, being a minority is NOT a requirement for FOS. It just seems as if almost all people receiving that award are a minority.

You would also have to be a first generation student

yeah, what exactly do they consider “first generation”

Some colleges say that your parents couldnt have gotten their AA degrees, but others say that as long as they didnt get their BAs… what is UFs policy on this?

You’re parents can’t have a BA.

The Florida Opportunity Scholars Program is an initiative to ensure first-generation students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have the resources they need to be academically successful at the University of Florida. Believe me, most of us, are minority, even thought is not a requirement you are supposed to be first generation.

Still haven’t received my financial aid either.

Has anyone received the FOS letter in the mail yet?

I checked my aid status today and it finally said something new…

You have missing documents
Florida Opportunity Scholarship Certification

I am hoping that this means i get it
