UF Finance vs Accounting

I had a few questions concerning a transfer. I attend FSCJ and after this semester I will have 5 of my 7 core requisites completed, with the other 2 completed by the end of summer term. Warrington states that I can apply with at least 4 core requisites so I plan on applying after Spring term for Spring 2016. I also read that it is recommended you complete all of your core requisites at least 2 semesters in advanced. This is problematic because this is not possible for me.

To my knowledge it is much harder to get into the FSOA over say the Finance program. For instance FSOA only accepted 10 Community College transfer students last fall. Do I have better odds getting into Finance? Are there any admission statistics that I could look at to help make a decision on which to apply to? Ultimately I want to choose the major I have the best chance of getting accepted with. Thank you for reading!

Admission Statistics??!!?!

See page 15.

Keep in mind that many those School of Business admits are BABA and only a much smaller subset are Finance.

Thank you Gator88NE!

Would I be able to apply to CLAS for Economics and apply to Warrington for Finance at the same time?

@gthang91 I just went through what you’re looking at doing! I wanted accounting, but I didn’t have a shot in hell. I ended up choosing between Econ-CLAS and Finance. You can’t apply to more than one major, but you can try and transfer once you are at UF if you find that you really do hate your major (switching majors is really difficult!). You can blame this all on Warrington Econ major! They basically feel the Econ-CLAS is too close to a “business major”, but you will likely be able to double major (CLAS/Warrington) once the last Business-Econ students graduate (2017 or 2018). You can tack on accounting/finance as a minor instead!

Thank you so much surrency1992! What did you chose between Econ-CLAS and Finance? I am just trying to decide which route would give me more of a chance at getting accepted. That is good news about potentially adding minors in addition to the economics degree.

@gthang91 I looked at where each major could land me and I felt they were the best. I ended up choosing Econ over finance because of my love of humanities and business. Econ is really about the science behind business and thats why I chose Econ over finance.

If I had to guess, the requirements for CLAS-Econ will be less competitive than School of Business-Finance. Just based on how hard it is to get into (via Transfer) any business school program other than BABA (BA Business Administration – General Studies).

That makes a lot of sense. For some reason the transfer requirement page is not available so I am not able to get any information. Do you know why this is Gator88NE?

I’ve been trying to get to it since you started this thread

I’m sure it’s being re-vamped and updated and will be back online in a few days.

If I am not mistaken the Min for Econ-CLAS is a 3.0 overall and a 3.0 Pre-req GPA (MAC2233, STA2023 and ECO2013/2023). It could be 3.5 for each as well, but I swear it was 3.0. I had a 3.48 cumulative and a 3.75 pre-req GPA. Business is going to want about the same (if not better) as my stats for most majors.

Ok that does seem quite a bit lower than for FSOA! The requirements are kind of bittersweet because I am in Financial Accounting right now. It is a Saturday morning class too  . After Spring Term I will have around 43 credits so does it make sense I would apply at the beginning of summer for Spring 2016 at UF? Thanks for the help and congratulations for getting in surrency1992.

I applied in late June or early July and I heard in mid/late September.

I managed to find the new link for the CLAS transfer information page: http://www.advising.ufl.edu/admissions/transfer-admissions/

All the same information, just different layout and URL.

If you go to clas.ufl.edu > Majors > Transfer it brings you the 404 error
I had to go through advising.ufl.edu > Admissions > Transfer

@Gator88I decided I am going to attempt the Finance Major route but I am unsure what to do about electives. I will have space in the Fall for 3 electives. Should these be electives towards my major or do they even really matter?

Thank you for your help on this forum and to everyone else.

I don’t think your choice of electives will “directly” impact your admissions, they will be looking at your core requisites and GPA. Of course, your electives can impact your overall GPA, and you will want to take electives that would allow you to complete your AA at FSCJ.

Good Luck!

I also have a question, lets say I want to apply to the Economics major for the business school instead of CLAS, what would the prerequisites be for the business school economics? Would it be the same as CLAS or the prerequisites for BABA?

@holyranger80 Reach out to an advisor, as the program is going through changes.

@Gator88NE on the application it states Date claimant began establishing Florida residence and domicile:

If I am a dependent would this be the date my mother was born or what? We have always resided in Florida. This has me confused.

Also when listing Activities I have completed since highschool, it says to list the Activity and Location. Location meaning where was the job, or the city?

As a dependent, it would be based on your mother’s date. Location can be both, if school related, you can list the school and city. otherwise just the city.
