UF Financial Aid

So now that everyone who's still on this thread has been (hopefully) accepted, we can start talking about financial aid.

So i know that UF taken bright futures, which covers tuition. But what about room and board? Does UF Give financial aid for that?

Any current Freshmen who received FA, what was your EFC for FAFSA, and what did you actually get in terms of Grants, Loans, scholarships, etc...

And everyone here, have you received any info about FA or anything related? Ru guys expecting/needing a certain amount to go?

Be careful about fin aid from UF. I at first got offered $3000 IN WORK STUDY, $2000 in Loans, & $1000 in GRANTS. on top of that, I got about $12,000 in private scholarships.

Then, right at the end of summer, when it was too late to switch schools, they took away both the work study and the subsidized loans, because apparently I had received “too much aid” and they wouldn’t give it to me even when I told them that I had been counting on it to pay for my school and my parents weren’t able to make up the difference. So I had to get almost that amount in private loans. Luckily I got the loan from the credit union that gave me one of those scholarships, so I got a good rate, but still if UF had not waited to take them away and had told me immediately about the problem, I would have gone to USF and not had to take out any loans.

A lot of the time, I feel like the school just sees the students as walking dollar signs

If you have a high EFC, dont expect to get much other than loans. Student I knew who got a lot of aid (grants & scholarships) had EFC’s of approx. $2000 and less.

For 2010-2011, I have a EFC of 4379. To pay for everything my FA has bright futures and florida prepaid, then on top of that I have a 539$ pell grant, a 2000$ SMART grant (For having a engineering or science major), 500 for national merit, and a little over 3k in loans. That’s per semester.

I’ve had more then enough money, so you could easily get by on far less. I take the max in loans offered to me because I’m considering joining the military, and they’ll pay the loans off. I had higher EFCs in the past, and making ends meet without the grants was a little more challenging.

my EFC is zero. I have 100% Bright Futures. How will this work out? Would I get federal and institutional aid? Also, how do we apply for summer aid? Is there an email address for the UF financial office or just a phone number?

You know, there is no more 100% bright futures. For each level of scholarship, BF pays a set amount per credit hour.

Yeah I know, I just meant that I have the equivalent to 100% Bright Futures…

I filled out my fafsa over a month ago and have no idea how to access my Financial aid status? any help?

Can you log into ISIS? That’s how we usually do it, log into ISIS and go to Aid Status for 2011-2012

Yea I did. but the wierd thing is that they havn’t asked me to send m 010 tax return or dependency worksheet.

Every other florida university (USF,UNF,UCF,) have asked for these documents cus I was selected for verification.

Ok, but do any of you guys have financial aid info in ISIS? mine is just blank, and says that i have no materials that need to be sent in.

Florida doesn’t usually do federal verification. They have some independent verification agreement so being selected by the fed doesn’t necessarily mean UF will require any additional documentation.

The one time I was selected for verification when I filled out my FAFSA UF didn’t request any additional info.

Since the FAFSA deadline hasn’t passed, it’s unlikely they’ll get the aid put together. I don’t even think disbursements are available yet. Probably in march.
