Allied to USF's Budget battle, looking for input from USF folks:

USF has enough on its plate now with the USF Poly independence battle and the state wanting to sweep away all of USF’s money reserves and reducing state funding to USF so disportionately and severely. Why would USF go to all the trouble of raising tuition even higher with market rates, collecting it and then having the state come in next year and appropriate (steal) it for other state needs like the state senate plan proposes doing now with USF’s “carry forward” money (reserves)?

Only FSU and UF want the preeminent university increased tuition bill. If USF wanted it, USF’s president Genshaft would have been at the senate higher education committee meeting last week like UF and FSU’s presidents were. The proposed 14 qualifying criteria for the preeminent tag in the bill were clearly tailored just for FSU and UF. If USF had wanted to participate the criteria could have been tweaked just a little bit to include USF; USF plainly didn’t want to participate in the tuition raising scheme!

Maybe next year, or the year after, USF might want to work toward getting market tuition option for tuition as proposed in market rate bill in the legislature; but not now. Besides the governor will likely veto the tuition increase bill if it comes to him for signature.

Too, rest assured when the dust finally settles with all this state funding and Lakeland Poly crap USF has had to put up with because of senator JD Alexander and his buddy UF president Bernie Machen, who volunteered to help JD by placing the Lakeland school under the UF umbrella 'til the Lakeland school could stand on its own, rest assured USF’s president Judy Genshaft will tell her buddy Gov. Scott to nix rat Machen’s pet “preeminent university bill” with a veto just for spite and because of all the aggravation USF had to endure partly because of Machen’s involvement!
