UF GPA calculation

Hello, I was just wondering about what classes constitute as "academic" that are used for UF gpa calculation. If someone is willing and able to calculate my UF gpa, that would be great :)
My cumulative uw gpa is 4.000
My cumulative w gpa is 4.678
Classes I have taken (honors, AP and DE)-
Freshman year:
English I Honors
Geometry Honors
Physical Science Honors

Sophomore year:
English II Honors
Algebra II Honors
AP World History
Biology Honors

Junior year:
AP Psych
AP US History
DE College Algebra (1/2 year)
DE Statistics (1/2 year)
ENC 1101 (DE 1/2 year)
ENC 1102 (DE 1/2 year)
Chemistry Honors

I have also taken French 1,2 & 3 if that matters. I have gotten an A in all of these classes. It just confuses me which classes are considered academic (especially with my AP & DE classes) and how to calculate the 1/2 year classes.
BTW I only included up to junior year because I think that's all UF looks up to, but I could be wrong.

Thank you!!!!

Only use academic classes (Do not use electives). If there are any honors, preIB, add .5 for each course. If there are any AP, IB, DE, add 1 for each course.

If you take an AP, IB, DE, it counts regardless if it was an elective. This does not apply to honors.

Do not count an AP course as +1 and +.5, it only gets 1 point. Then of course, add and then divide by number of courses.

I’m not sure about French, but I guess it counts.

You are probably right on the up-to-junior thing.

Okay but out of the classes I listed above, which ones would not be considered academic you think?

I don’t know what ENC is, but all of those classes are academic.

^English Composition

All of the courses you have listed are academic, I believe. Just do not include electives when calculating your UF GPA.

Yeah, ENC is freshman English (written communication). ENC 1101 is more writing based, and ENC 1102 is more literature based.

So if I calculated right, based on the info above, my UF gpa is 4.7?? That seems too high to me…

Well, if you got all As, I don’t how it can be too high.

Let’s see:
Three (3) regular courses - 3 x 4 = 12
Seven (7) honors courses - 7 x 4.5 = 31.5
Seven (7) AP/DE courses - 7 x 5 = 35
Total courses taken = 17
UF GPA = 4.6

I think your total and my total is close enough. It’s a very impressive GPA. Good job on getting all As!

Without your foreign language credits, you’d have a 4.75!

I’m not an expert. This may have been calculated wrong. Anyone feel free to correct

@Niquii77, your math is exactly what I did except I didn’t include foreign language  I’m really not sure if foreign language is included or not… It doesn’t really matter to me though.
Thank you for your kind words!

Foreign Language is included.

Okay thank you! My UF gpa is a 4.6 then :)

I think most schools count 3rd year of a foreign language as honors. Are you sure yours doesn’t? Not that it really matters. You have perfect grades and a good schedule.

How do you only have 3 classes freshman year? I assume French was a fourth, and then PE was a fifth. Didn’t you take a social studies class?

Anyway, good GPA.

At my school, French/Spanish 1-4 is regular. After French 4 is AP French, which I didn’t take.

& I only listed my classes that were honors, AP or DE. My school runs on an 8 period day schedule (including lunch) so I have 7 classes a day.

Thank you!:)

Sorry Devon , this is not right.
1 year course is considered 1 credit and 1/2 year course is considered 1/2 credit. So you have 2 DE courses not 4.
Also Foreign Language 1 and 2 are standard. Foreign Language 3 and 4 are honors but it appears your school does this differently - I think UF does give honors weight to Foreign Language 3 and 4 but I am not sure.
All courses that are English, Social studies, Math, Science and Foreign Language are academic. All AP courses are considered academic and weighted at 5. All DE academic courses are weighted at 5.
So do not calculate PE, performing art and any electives that are non academic in the mix.
For all classes (standard, honors, AP/IB/ Dual Enrollment) though 1 year is 1 credit and 1/2 year is 1/2 credit.

Whatever be you have an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and you cant go any higher than that. Great job!

Sorry Devon my mistake On further investigation I find all the DE courses you have taken are 1 credit.

This link below lists all the DE course for which you get credit and some are 1/2 some are 1.

<a href=“Login Page - BFIE”>Login Page - BFIE;

so you have 2 Std, 8 Honors, 3 AP, 4 DE and this includes French1, 2 and 3(Hons).

Good luck!

If you took classes that were academic but not honors, AP, or DE, they would still be considered in your average. For example, the French classes or if you took a regular social studies class your freshman year, that would count. Yes, that would mean you’d only get 4 points for an A, and yes, that would bring down your average, but that is the case with everyone. The only classes that aren’t counted are nonacademic electives such as chorus or PE. It’s not that hard to figure out what’s academic. If it sounds hard when you tell people what you took (biotechnology, psychology, French, Bible as Literature, Holocaust studies), it’s academic. If it sounds like the type of class where you get an A if you show up and turn everything in (drama, PE, weight training, office aid), then it’s not.

The good news is, you don’t actually NEED a 4.6 to get in to UF. I mean, assuming your SAT scores and ECs are commensurate with your grades. If they’re not, having a little higher won’t make a difference anyway.

Okay besides the honors, DE & AP classes I’ve listed above, I’ve taken-
Freshman year:
health science 1
art 2D (1/2 year)
art 3D (1/2 year)
French 2

Sophomore:
ceramics pottery
health science 2
french 3

Junior:
Creative writing
drawing & painting

Would any of these be considered academic (I now know French is) that would be factored into my UF gpa?
I am happy to have a 4.0 uw gpa but I wish I had an accurate UF gpa just so I knew what they were looking at :)

Btw I took French 1 & algebra 1 honors in 8th grade. So would the algebra 1 honors be included in my UF gpa?

Yes to the 8th grade algebra and French. As far as the others, if Health Science is your School’s name for PE, then it’s nonacademic, but if it’s a medical elective, then it’s academic and counts. Creative writing is too.

You didn’t take a hs science course, like Earth/Space, in 8th grade? At my daughter’s school, all the kids who took hs math took hs science too.

Health Science is a medical elective and it is sequential in series, 1-3. I also too PE freshman year but I didn’t include that because I knew it wasn’t academic. I’ve taken science every year (phy sci, biology, chemistry and this year I’m taking DE biology and DE Human Body) so I don’t know what you mean lol

I didn’t include my classes this year because I don’t think they’re included in figuring UF gpa (obviously because the classes aren’t complete yet).

Edit: The only credits that were offered at my middle school for high school credit was algebra honors, geometry honors and French 1
