UF Greek Life! Sororities!

Im looking for some honest opinions about each of sorority houses.. (reputation/description/tier/rank, etc!)

Sorority recruitment begins August 18th!

I second your request!

The main list is definitely off but you can get an idea from the comments on the side…

[University of Florida - UF Greek Life - Sororities - GreekRank.com](<a href=“University of Florida - UF - Sororities - Greekrank”>University of Florida - UF - Sororities - Greekrank)

have you tried asking on [Swamp It - Gator Nation unite!](http://www.swampit.com/) ?
You might get more honest answers since people can post anonymously. People in greek life aren’t likely to say something bad about their own house when their identities are open

basically if you can’t fit their lifestyle it’s not for you. Every sorority has a reputation…some better than others. If you’re tall, beautiful, blonde and wealthy you belong to Tri Del (Delta Delta Delta). You also have Delta Gamma (known as DG). These girls are everywhere! They are very involved around campus! People usually make fun of Phi Mu girls but they aren’t that bad…they are just low in ranking. AEPhi girls (Jewish sorority) is easy to get into…if you’re jewish and somewhat competent in social activities then you’re in (girls are okay there) honestly just rush for yourself and decide which one you want…honestly watch out for B.A.B’s…Bad Ass *****es. Now these girls aren’t in a sorority but they are the real deal…

BABs?.. Never heard of them

Does anyone know about some of the other sororites, especially chi omega, delta zeta, and Kappa alpha theta?

Just a random comment for no one in particular: If you like/fit in with a sorority what does their rep matter? If you haven’t met the girls from a sorority yet, how can you be interested in joining based off their popularity? You don’t really know where you belong til you rush, regardless of how much “research” you do about greek life. Maybe “on paper” XYZ sorority seems like your perfect match but when you actually meet the girls, there’s no chemistry ect… so there’s really no way of knowing before hand where you should go.

How important are recommendation letters?

Hey ladies! Welcome to UF, we’re glad to have you!
As for all of the above posts about Greek Rank, Swampit, CollegiateACB…please, please, I’m BEGGING YOU, do yourself a favor and don’t even look at those sites. It pains me to say this, but there are sorority members (and non-sorority trolls) who write lies about their rival sororities on there, and you as PNMs really should not be reading any of it. There are sixteen chapters on campus at UF, and literally every single one of them is a GREAT chapter. We’re fortunate that at UF, there is no such thing as a “bad sorority”. The “lowest” ranked sorority here is still lightyears ahead of its equivalent at UCF and other non-SEC schools (I’m looking at you, FSU). No sorority is full of “hoes” or “fatties” or anything that those websites imply. Sorority girls at UF, no matter what chapter you’re in, are all basically the same - they’re generally sweet, ambitious, polite, intelligent, pretty, and all-around great girls!

PrettyPeridot, you are a very wise girl, and I hope to see you during recruitment! You completely understand. To put things into perspective, when I went through recruitment, I was 100% sure where I wanted to go. My family has been in the same sorority for generations - they have been president, vice president, recruitment chair, you name it. I was practically born into those letters. But I went through recruitment and I just…didn’t love them. I didn’t cry during their sisterhood video, I was not passionate about anything I talked about there. It was a hard decision, but I didn’t put them on my list. I ended up at a sorority I LOVE with all my heart, and I wouldn’t trade my two years here (so far!) for anything. After I broke the mold, my cousins all did the same when they rushed the next year - I have a cousin in KD and a cousin in ChiO, and they both love their chapters every bit as much as I do.

So of course, it’s a great idea to go in having done your research. Stalk the websites of each chapter, see what interests you most. In the end, though, when you make your decision, none of that is going to matter - it’s just going to come down to your heart. I knew mine was right for me because I cried there during the video round, I LOVED my rushers, and when the round was over, I didn’t want to leave. I sat up all night before Bid Day hoping to see their name on my card so that I could go back and hug the girls who rushed me and continue our conversation from the day before.

The only chapter I can personally recommend is my own, of course. It’s my home, and I don’t ever want to leave it. I hope you girls all find homes of your own in August! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Go Gators, Go Greeks!

And GatorDance - letters are important, but not crucial. I went through with letters for Theta, Zeta, DZ and Sigma Kappa but no letters for any of the chapters I preferenced at, so clearly they’re not that important.

So, from my understanding, pre-meds usually do not “rush”, is that right?
Any pre-med greeks here?

@alovestori- thanks for the input. I’m actually already greek. Also, I’m pre-med and do not highly recommend going greek if you like having control of 100% of your free time, because when you’re greek there are a lot of MANDATORY hours that you “have to” invest. At the same time I know other pre meds that love being in the sorority and don’t mind the mandatory time investment so it all comes down to how good you can “juggle” things and how passionate you are to be greek.

Hey swindoll…I’m also a premed Greek, and so are many of my sisters. Like PrettyPeridot said, it’s all about time management. If you’re a naturally organized person, it’s no problem. I actually benefit from being premed an in a sorority, because so many of my sisters have taken classes before me and are able to help. Literally the only reason I passed Chem II was because my GGbig helped me every step of the way, and gave me her old textbook and her notebook and old tests to study from.

There is a mandatory time investment in being in a sorority, yes, but if you’re passionate about pre-med and passionate about being Greek, it’s not difficult to manage.

just wanted to know.
what do we need for rush?
someone told me that we need letter of recommendations and high school transcripts?
do we need a letter of recommendation? and if we do, do we need one from someone that was once a greek alumni? and what about the high school transcripts?
thanks!

Bump10char

Letter of recommendation are very helpful, but not necessarily required. The letters will help you get through the first rounds, where hundreds of girls are going through the houses in a short amount of time. Ask your mom to ask all her friends if they were in sororities (anywhere, it doesn’t have to be at UF) and if they will write you a recommendation for their sorority. You can send letters to many different sororities, and should do so, because you can’t know yet which house will be your best fit. Take any recommendations you can get. The addresses of where to send the letters will be on each UF sorority’s website.

Just wondering this but how expensive is rushing? I mean I’m considering joining a sorority but I don’t know if I can afford it if it’s super expensive…

also do we need transcripts?

someone mentioned high school transcripts but i don’t think that is true.
just wanted to double check
