UF - Holistic Admissions

So everybody has a "Reach" but not guaranteed acceptance when applying to UF as long as you look different from other applicants?

I am just worried because my school's grading system is so different and English is not my first langague. What if they set a cut to SAT (mine is 1720) scores or GPA? I've been reading some posts about it and it seems like UF just throw random dices.

I wrote in my EC's that I've always been passionate about drawing and design (seriously since 5 or 7 years old) I am already taking classes to create a portifolio, I am applying to Advertising. I have been an admnistrator and moderator of several important websites in Brazil (24k likes on facebook) mostly in the Fanart and Design areas. Does that even count? Ive taught children to dance (my other passion) I've danced in two traditional dance groups, done Leadership and Speech, my works have been exposed in the National Museum and I am taking strict Theater classes to improve my artistic vision and performing skills. I have also more volunteer work and two other languages classes (Japanese and Spanish). Underage people are not allowed to work formally here, so no paid work for me. Thus, i'm relying on my EC's. essay is decent.

Should I just list my EC's or describe them like I did above?

I think you should definitely list the one about the Facebook likes (quantitative data and all that). Maybe re-try giving your SATs as well? I’m applying to UF with Advertising as my minor (PR major), and from what I can tell, the essay is given definite weightage.

Also, even if work there is unpaid, do it for the experience. For several industries (including the advertising industry) internships are the first step in the door. The applications state “Work experiences” not the level of pay, so use that to your advantage to kill two birds with one stone. I plan on completing 15 internships by the time I am done with college (I have already completed three).

In my UF application, I wrote in proper sentence structure, not a list, because that seemed more appropriate somehow. I don’t plan on writing ECs in lists ever, but maybe that’s just me.

Good luck with your application, and hope to see you in UF next year, maybe even in classes!
