.
My D was auto admitted. 1560 SAT, 4.0 UW, 10 APs. We are OOS.
UF will have a great class of ‘22 if your kids enroll!
My son also received invitation for Top 10 reception. We were sad to see it was only available the 12th or 26th. We planned on doing the Florida day on March 19th which falls during his spring break. Guess we will miss this perk as we would really prefer to go during the break. He’s not one for all the hub bub so we might go ahead a schedule theAfternoon with Honors tours instead of attending florida days.
Does anyone know if its top 10% or actually the top 10? That would be crazy.
Our D was also auto admitted. 1570 SAT, 4.0 UW, 14 APs, NMF. We are instate and plan to take advantage of Benacquisto scholar. D was much more excited about UF with some of these new changes and will attend one of the top 10 receptions.
D just received an email that she is a semifinalist for the Lombardi and Stamps Scholarship. Hoping others on the board made it as well!
Wow, congrats.how exciting.
Good luck to her. It is a great scholarship.
Hopefully someone can give us some insight into the Honors program. We just did one on one tour with UCF and was pretty impressed. They advised he’d take many if not all of his general ed classes as honors classes if he wanted with a max class cap of 20-25. That’s awesome. Wondering if The Honors Program at UF is the same or if the honors classes there include those general ed classes.
We are attending Afternoon with Honors on March 23rd but wanted some info prior since housing due on 20th. Also hoping scholarship will be decided by then as well.
Thanks in advance
Hmm…my daughter is in Honors, and I don’t think that she has been taking gen ed classes as honors with small class sizes. Her Chemistry class had around 300 people in it. But, she did take a class in Hume that was honors and very small. I think it was Forensics.
What she does like about Honors is living in Hume - great because she has a car and parks it in the garage which is right behind Hume. And, she likes the ability to register early and get her preferred class times.
Flmomof3 thanks for the info. My son will need one of those crazy chemistry classes , I here they are often huge. At ucf, it would be capped. Ugh,this is tricky. Thanks,
If anyone else has any info I would appreciate it.
@FLMomof3 I was glad to see your comment about the parking garage! My daughter would love to live on campus at Hume but is not comfortable being without a car. (For trips to Publix, the gym, an off-campus job or just having the freedom to drive home if she needs to!) Does your daughter find it hard to secure a spot because there are more cars than spaces available? Is it crazy expensive? Also, how does your daughter get to classes? We are unsure of whether to get her a bike or a scooter.
She doesn’t typically find it hard to secure a parking spot. She says that mornings are the toughest time to find a spot. The few times that she has been out in the morning and not been able to find a spot, she says that she’s parked at “Frat Row”, and that’s like a 7 minute walk. I think that the parking decal was around $160 for the year. As for getting to classes - she walks. She seems fine with that, and hasn’t had an interest in getting a bike or scooter, though she says there are many bikes at Hume, so people must use them. Her roommate also walks, and occasionally takes the bus. My daughter says that the longest she’s had to walk for class has been 15 minutes.
Second the above comment. Parking garage is right behind Hume. Rarely a problem finding a spot. Can easily walk or take the bus (stops right in front of Hume) to classes.
For those interested in which “honor” classes are offered at UF:

The “Signature Seminars” are something new…

@madredos @candyce1 Thanks for the encouragement. D has her first phone interview tonight. She is very excited about the Stamps/Lombardi program.
@Gator88NE - Thanks for the wonderful links. Pretty exciting! I did notice there was a general chemistry class in the Fall 2018 offerings. The Signature Seminars program looks like a great addition to the current offerings. Its great to see the improvements UF appears to be making in the honors department. My D’s interest in UF has noticeably risen in the past few weeks, primarily due to the added attention and offerings of the honors program.
Has anyone eligible for the Benaquisto Scholarship (National Merit Finalists) also been given a Presidential Scholarship? Since the Benaquisto covers the total cost of attendance and UF is the top college in Florida, does giving additional scholarship money, such as the Presidential, to NMFs really get more of them to attend Florida? I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to have a policy that no one can get more in scholarships than the total cost of attendance, which would then divert all the Presidential scholarships to other top students. I’m not suggesting that we take anything away from NMFs, but it’s likely that some students outscored the NMFs on the SAT, and they should be rewarded for their hard work too.
I have never heard of a NMF getting a presidential scholarship as well. I have a son at UF who has the Benaquisto scholarship, but did not receive anything else. My youngest D also just got into UF and will have Benaquisto but no presidential. I agree with you that there are better uses for the presidential scholarships. I feel that would be unfair as the Benaquisto is very generous!
We know 2 kids who received both Presidential and Benaquisto. So it has happened.
Does anyone know if Honors Advisors meet with honors students at orientation to advise them as to their fall schedule? Or will it be like most orientations, too many kids registering and not enough advisors or time to not get much help? Any feedback from current honors students?
